Traffic-calmed streets, shops and restaurants shape Biersdorf’s village center and invite you to stroll and linger. Mining and ironworking offer a second perspective: the Füsseberg mine was the largest iron ore mine in the former Daaden district, and the Hüttenweiher still recalls the former ironworks. When looking for a holiday apartment in Biersdorf, the village center, architectural history and mobility options all offer different points of interest.

Heritage Zone and Historic Buildings

The heritage register for the Altenkirchen district, issued on October 30, 2024, lists the village center—with specific streets and house numbers—as a heritage zone. This includes Obere Mühlhof 1–31 (odd numbers) as well as 2, 4 and 10; the odd-numbered addresses 3–13 and even-numbered addresses 10–20 on Werrbachstraße; and Im Krain 1 and 2. This detailed list makes the heritage zone identifiable through specific addresses. One individually listed building is the farmhouse with a lower lean-to at Glaskopf 2. Dating from the 18th century, it was built using half-timbering and is partly clad in slate. In addition to the larger heritage zone, attention is therefore drawn to a specific building type and particular architectural features.

FĂĽsseberg Mine and Ironworking

The FĂĽsseberg mine in Biersdorf was first mentioned in 1708 and was the largest iron ore mine in the former Daaden district. Biersdorf also had an iron smelter in the 18th century. The Biersdorf HĂĽttenweiher still recalls the former ironworks. The mine represents ore mining, the smelter represents ironworking, and the pond preserves the connection to the former ironworks. There is also an adit entrance of the former FĂĽsseberg iron ore mine, which is associated with Biersdorf, on ErzstraĂźe (L 280), from Daaden toward Betzdorf.

Cycling Route and Train for Planning Your Trip

The cycling route, just over 20 km long, passes through Schutzbach, Niederdreisbach, Daaden and its district of Biersdorf, and Emmerzhausen, before reaching the center of Lippe, a district of Burbach. There it connects with the Siegerland Cycle Route (R 41) toward Haiger and Siegen. The route description gives both a sequence of places and a specific endpoint and connection. The direction is clear for your planning: the route leads to Lippe and from there continues on the R 41 toward Haiger or Siegen.

The train is another practical transport option: the Daadetalbahn runs every hour between Betzdorf and Daaden and stops at Biersdorf. Check the timetable for specific departures. The cycling route and the train answer different planning questions: by bike, a route just over 20 km long passes through several places before reaching Lippe; by train, the focus is on the connection between Betzdorf and Daaden, with a stop in Biersdorf. Whether you want to plan your trip around cycling stages or train journeys, you can take this into account when planning your stay and looking for a holiday apartment.
