Remagen combines views of the Rhine with specific cycling connections and a distinctive historical attraction: the Peace Museum “Bridge at Remagen.” Cycling routes lead from here towards Bonn and Koblenz, while the Rhine promenade offers views downstream. This gives the trip-planning options a range of different focuses: scenery, activity and local history.

Rhine views and cycling options

From the Rhine promenade, you can look downstream towards Schloss Marienfels, Haus Ernich and the Siebengebirge hills. Cycling connections run from Remagen to Bonn, around 25 kilometres, and to Koblenz, around 45 kilometres. Bonn is therefore the shorter of the two cycling destinations mentioned; Koblenz is the longer route. Some sections run along the banks of the Rhine, while elsewhere the routes use Rhine promenades or separate cycle paths.

In March 2024, the town described an e-bike rental system with four stations: at Remagen railway station, in the Remagen industrial area, at the Kripp ferry and at the RheinAhrCampus. The availability of individual stations may change, so check in advance whether the location you want is available for your ride. You can combine a cycle ride to Bonn with a boat trip; trains can be used to travel towards Bonn or Koblenz. For a specific combination, check the train timetables and boat departure times.

The Peace Museum in Remagen

The Peace Museum “Bridge at Remagen” is housed in the towers of the former bridge. It documents the history of the Ludendorff Bridge and the prisoner-of-war camp in Remagen. As a cultural highlight, it complements the river and cycling themes with the history of the bridge and the camp.

In the wider Ahrweiler destination

Historical attractions add further highlights in the wider Ahrweiler destination. The House of the Marksmen in Ahrweiler displays art-historical treasures from the past three centuries, including uniforms, pictorial documentation and historic marksmen’s rifles. Ahrweiler’s three marksmen’s societies have operated the museum since 2002; visits are possible by appointment. If you plan to visit the collection, arrange your visit in advance.

The Roman Villa at Silberberg in Ahrweiler offers a different perspective on the past: visitors can see a model of the Roman estate and an audiovisual presentation there. This means the wider destination brings together a range of historical themes, from the Roman villa to the collection at the House of the Marksmen.

For hiking, information at the level of Ahrweiler district is relevant. The certified hiking trails Rheinburgenweg, Eifelleiter and AhrSteig are located there. The Red Wine Hiking Trail and numerous marked local routes add to the district’s network of trails. These routes are a district-wide feature, while the cycling connections mentioned above run from Remagen to Bonn and Koblenz.

Cyclists will also find more options in Ahrweiler district: the Rhine Cycle Route and the Ahr Cycle Route are routes the district promotes particularly to cycle tourists. For historical and local heritage enquiries about the region, the Ahrweiler District Archive offers information and advice. The regional context thus extends from cycling and hiking routes to local heritage, while the Rhine promenade and Peace Museum provide specific points of interest in Remagen.
