Wershofen offers different perspectives on the Eifel: on foot, a circular hike leads through forests, meadows and rocky sections; by bike, routes wind through the Hocheifel, and the local gliding club offers guest flights over the Eifel. Kottenborn Chapel also combines a historical connection with sweeping views of the landscape. This lets you tailor your stay to your interests, without all the activities having to follow the same pace.

Hiking and views across the Hocheifel

Circular Hiking Trail No. 5 forms a loop from Schuld towards Wershofen. The route passes through forests, along meadow paths and across rocky sections of the Hocheifel. Its route symbol marks the trail consistently in one direction. As trail conditions can change with the seasons, it is worth checking them before your hike; after disruptions, you should also pay attention to the markings on site.

The spot in front of Kottenborn Chapel offers another view of the Hocheifel: from there, the view stretches across the hilly landscape towards Aremberg. The chapel was built in 1892. Inside are depictions of St. Brigitta and St. Donatus, saints especially revered in agriculture. The site therefore offers both a connection to the landscape and a specific detail of cultural history.

Cycling and aviation

For a cycling tour, the RadArena am Ring lists a route of 32.1 kilometres and 623 metres of elevation gain. A related road-cycling route starts in Wershofen, descends towards the Ahr Valley and continues through the Hocheifel. The endpoint is listed as the Wershofen bus stop at Hauptstraße 17. Check the endpoint locally before setting off; road conditions and signage may change. The distance and elevation gain give you concrete details for planning your own tour, without specifying a particular journey time.

The Wershofen Gliding Club also offers a way to experience the Eifel from a different perspective: its activities include introductory training flights and guest flights over the Eifel, either in a glider or a motor glider. For anyone interested in aviation, this offers a very different option for a stay alongside hiking and cycling routes.

Leisure area and barbecue hut

The Wershofen leisure area is a public municipal facility for extracurricular youth education. A barbecue hut is located right next to it and can be rented with advance notice. It is available for public rental and has indoor seating for approximately 50 to 80 people. Facilities include a counter area, two refrigerators, a wood-burning stove and an open fireplace outdoors. Fees and booking conditions may change, so check the current terms before making an enquiry. Local rules may apply to the facilities.

Culture in the wider destination of Ahrweiler

In the wider destination of Ahrweiler, the Haus der Schützen in Ahrweiler displays art-historical treasures from the past three centuries, including uniforms, visual documentation and historic marksmen’s rifles. The three Ahrweiler marksmen’s associations have run the museum since 2002; visits are possible by appointment. Visitors to the Roman Villa at Silberberg in Ahrweiler can also see a model of the Roman estate and watch an audiovisual presentation. These attractions complement Wershofen’s hiking, cycling and cultural offerings with further insights specifically located in Ahrweiler.
