Herschbroich is located in the Hocheifel near the Nürburgring. For trip planning, the Vulkan-Rad-Route Eifel is a specific point of reference: it passes through the village along the Adenau–Herschbroich–Quiddelbach–Nürburg corridor. Another historical reference is the Old Castle in Herschbroich; no visible traces remain there.

Cycling through Herschbroich

The municipal route description dated October 24, 2023, traces the Vulkan-Rad-Route Eifel from DĂĽmpelfeld on the Ahr to Bad Bertrich, via the NĂĽrburgring and Ulmen, and through the Hocheifel-NĂĽrburgring and GesundLand Vulkaneifel holiday regions. In Herschbroich, sections of the route follow the K21. After the village, it crosses the L92 and continues along a paved farm track towards Quiddelbach.

The paved section does not describe the surface of the entire route: it is not paved throughout and is therefore unsuitable for road bikes. Anyone planning the tour by bike should bear this distinction in mind when choosing a bicycle. The stated endpoints give the route a regional scope, while the K21, L92 and farm track identify the specific section described through Herschbroich and onwards towards Quiddelbach.

Circular Walk and Old Castle

On foot, a circular walk starting in Adenau is another option. It passes the Kesselchen, Karussell and Schwalbenschwanz sections of the NĂĽrburgring and returns via Herschbroich. The route format is a clear point of difference when choosing: a circular walk starting in Adenau on the one hand, and the cycling route between DĂĽmpelfeld and Bad Bertrich on the other. Route conditions may change; check the current route before setting out.

The tourism concept dated September 22, 2025, describes the Old Castle in Herschbroich as a Celtic structure that probably served as a refuge fort. No visible traces remain. The Old Castle is associated with the prehistoric fortifications of the Ahrweiler district. Ring and section ramparts in the Ahrweiler district date from the pre-Roman Iron Age.

Culture and Routes in the Wider Ahrweiler Destination

The wider Ahrweiler destination offers other cultural attractions. In Ahrweiler, the Haus der Schützen displays art-historical treasures from the past three centuries, including uniforms, pictorial documentation and historic marksmen’s rifles. The three Ahrweiler marksmen’s societies have operated a museum since 2002; visits are possible by request. At the Roman Villa on Silberberg in Ahrweiler, visitors can view a model of a Roman manor and watch an audiovisual presentation. Together, these offer a comparison between an art-historical collection spanning several centuries and a depiction of a Roman manor with a model and presentation.

The Ahrweiler district is considered mountainous and forested. Certified hiking trails in the district include the Rheinburgenweg, Eifelleiter and AhrSteig. The Rotweinwanderweg and numerous marked local trails complement the hiking network. With the Rheinradweg and Ahrradweg, the district particularly appeals to cycling tourists. The Ahrweiler District Archive is a local-history information and advisory center for historical and local-history questions about the region.
