Randringhausen is a state-recognised health resort with a spa area. It is also home to the only state-recognised iodine-sulphur springs in North Rhine-Westphalia. This places the spa theme at the heart of the town’s identity; at the same time, its wooded recreational area, hiking trails alongside fens and a landscaped park offer further options for a stay. When planning your trip, you can choose between the history of the springs, trails, park activities and cycling.
Springs and Local History
In 1928, two new springs were drilled on the neighbouring Wilmsmeier and Ernstmeier farms. The farm names and the year anchor the springs’ story in a specific episode of local history. Together with the state recognition of the iodine-sulphur springs, this gives Randringhausen a historical perspective: the drilling is part of the town’s history, while the recognition describes the springs’ official status. This brings a historical development and the present-day significance of the spa theme side by side.
Woodland, Fens and Landscaped Park
Randringhausen’s wooded recreational area covers about 266 hectares and includes the spa area itself, which covers around 34 hectares. These figures do not describe two areas that you should simply add together: the smaller spa area lies within the larger recreational area. If you want to gauge the extent of the health resort, this relationship is more useful than a simple total. The comparison shows that the spa area forms part of the larger recreational area.
Hiking trails in Randringhausen pass by fens. Another point of interest in the landscape is the spacious park around the spa houses. It is used by joggers, walkers and dog owners. This offers different ways to spend time outdoors: trails along the fens and a park used by a variety of groups. If you are out with a dog, dog owners are explicitly part of the park’s described everyday use; if you want to hike through a moorland landscape, the trails mentioned may be of interest.
Kneipp Facility and Routes
Randringhausen has a public open-air Kneipp facility. The Kneipp pool was renovated and now shines with a fresh stainless-steel finish. The facility is a distinctive local feature alongside the spa area and landscape: its public nature and outdoor setting describe the facility, while the renovation is part of its construction history.
There is also a named option for a bike ride: the Bauernbad Radelroute is a circular route of about 36 kilometres that passes through Randringhausen. The town is also suitable as a starting and finishing point for the route’s individual loops; there is ample parking at the spa houses. The route length and the option of riding individual loops answer different planning questions: the circular route gives you a specific indication of distance, while the individual loops offer another way to plan your route. You can first consider whether the full circular route or one of the individual loops would suit your outing.
A specific starting and finishing point is given for the “Um Randringhausen – N&K Route 7” loop: the public car park at Randringhausen spa park, Bäderstraße 102, 32257 Bünde. This local reference differs from the information about the Bauernbad Radelroute: here the focus is on the car park and address, while there it is on the route length and individual loops. You can therefore choose the route information that suits you based on whether you are looking for a named starting point or a cycling route with a stated total distance.
