For a stay in Wustrow, you can plan your day around the water, the coast or a cultural activity: Zeesboot trips, trails and exhibitions offer different ways to spend your time. The time of year also matters when planning, as some activities are seasonal or tied to specific dates.
Landscape between the Baltic Sea and the Bodden
Wustrow lies between the Baltic Sea and the Saaler Bodden. Fine sandy beaches, a rugged cliff coast, gentle meadows and reed beds shape the landscape. The routes lead in different directions: along the cliffs, over the dike or along the Bodden. This lets you explore the coastal and Bodden landscapes as distinct options for excursions, rather than combining them into a single route.
Trips, sailing and courses at the harbor
From May to October, visitors can join trips from Wustrow Harbor aboard the Zeesboote “Butt” or “Bill.” If you would rather rent a boat for your own use, you can hire sturdy Rügenjollen there for half a day or a full day. Both options are based at the harbor, but they differ in whether you join a trip on a Zeesboot or rent a Jolle. Check operating details, availability and rental conditions before your trip.
Wustrow Harbor is also home to the only sailing school on the Fischland peninsula. It offers beginner and advanced courses for all age groups, as well as courses for motorboat licenses and VHF radio certificates. If you would like to include a course in your travel plans, ask about the current offering in advance. The Wustrow Zeesboot Regatta takes place every year on the first weekend in July; it is also worth checking the current program.
Bodden cruises from Wustrow offer another way to explore the Saaler Bodden from the water. They provide opportunities to observe native seabird species and migratory birds in their habitat; specific sightings are not guaranteed. The traditional “MS Boddenkieker” passenger service connects Ribnitz-Damgarten, Dierhagen and Wustrow via the Saaler Bodden, with up to three trips a day. As routes and frequencies can vary seasonally, check the timetable before your trip.
Cycling and hiking trails
The Fischland-Darß route of the Baltic Sea Cycle Route passes through Wustrow and follows the cliffs in the direction of Ahrenshoop. Hiking routes follow the cliffs to Ahrenshoop, cross the dike to Dierhagen, and run along the Bodden to Althäger Harbor, as well as to Born and Wieck. This offers different route options: along the coast, over the dike or by the Bodden. When planning your stage, check local conditions and signage; trail conditions may change for hikers.
Spa forest and nature watching
The Fischland spa forest is located in the Baltic resort of Wustrow, right in front of the dike and close to the beach. Its accessible recreation options are intended for all age groups and support health promotion and medical prevention. Individual activities may change, so find out what is currently available before your visit. In the spa forest, families with children can discover the figures along the legends trail; QR codes link to the stories. This complements Bodden cruises with a different way to engage with local nature and stories, without presuming any particular wildlife sightings.
Culture and events
Contemporary artists present changing exhibitions at the Haus des Gastes and Fischlandhaus. As the exhibition program changes, check the latest information before visiting. The Wustrow cultural trail follows blue stones. The Baltic resort of Wustrow celebrates its pier festival on the last Sunday in August; check the program for your travel year, as dates may vary. If you are planning your stay around an event, you can compare this August date with the Zeesboot regatta in July and choose your travel dates accordingly.
