A stay in Parchtitz offers two distinct highlights: birdlife at nearby Nonnensee and the municipality’s manor house history. These places and themes are clearly distinct—from the path by the water to the historic estates in Boldevitz and Reischvitz.

Birdlife and trails at Nonnensee

The municipality of Parchtitz borders Nonnensee directly. Visitors and residents use the local recreation area for walks. The lake is a nesting and protected habitat for many bird species. To date, 80 water-dependent bird species have been observed there; 25 species nest at the lake. White-tailed eagles are also spotted, while osprey are seen less often.

Nonnensee has a circular walking trail about five kilometres long, with two observation towers. It can be used to explore the birdlife and for running. The loop therefore combines a specific distance with two different interests: getting out and about and observing the birds.

The Duwenbeek is also part of the surrounding landscape: the municipality of Parchtitz lies near this stream, described as the only natural flowing watercourse on the island of Rügen.

Manor house history in the municipality

Boldevitz Manor House stands in the village of Boldevitz in the municipality of Parchtitz. Its core building was constructed in 1635. In the second half of the 18th century, it was extended symmetrically to the south with two two-storey side wings. The manor house also has a double gable typical of the period, now described as unique on the island of Rügen.

The hall in the central wing originally contained landscape wallpapers painted on canvas by Jakob Philipp Hackert, created between 1762 and 1764. The wallpapers are now in storage. The Hackert Hall was restored with support from the German Foundation for Monument Protection. The building’s history, interior design and the story of the paintings give the manor house several points of historical interest.

Boldevitz Manor House has an English landscape park with a swan pond and a Neoclassical chapel. The park ensemble complements the architecture with a designed landscape. The building’s history and the park’s design can thus be seen side by side at the same location, although the landscape wallpapers in storage are not part of a tour today.

Another sight in the municipality is Reischvitz Manor House. The history of the estate includes a heyday, expropriation in 1945, the period under the agricultural production cooperative (LPG), and its repurchase by the von Platen family in 1991. Those interested in manor houses can therefore explore not only the architecture in Boldevitz but also a distinct historical sequence in Reischvitz.

Routes in the municipality

A scenic cycling route starts at the B 96 towards Gademow. It runs via Willihof and Muglitz through the Boldevitz and Panzevitz forests to Gingst. The named places and forest sections make the route easy to follow, without confusing it with the Nonnensee circular trail.

Route 7, “Westrügen,” runs via Boldevitz and Muglitz, is about 29 kilometres long and is described as easy. The difference from the circular trail at Nonnensee is clear when choosing a route: the lake loop is about five kilometres, while Route 7 is around 29 kilometres. This offers a shorter circuit by the lake and a longer route with its own difficulty rating to help guide your choice.
