Visitors to Gribow encounter two distinct themes: its listed manor complex and cycling. The manor house tells a story of construction phases, from its rebuilding in 1888 to the start of later renovations; at the same time, Route 3, “North of the Peene,” follows a field path parallel to the Swinow to the manor. When planning your stay, it is worth considering the building history, cycling tour, and current visitor options separately.
A Manor Estate with Several Phases of Construction
The manor complex, with its manor house, barn, and two stables built of fieldstone and brick, is listed. The manor house was rebuilt in 1888 under Axel Bunge, when much of the estate’s buildings were also reconstructed. The new building was therefore part of a broader construction phase on the estate. After standing empty for many years from 1994, extensive heritage-compliant renovation of the manor house and farm buildings began in 2002.
Things to Do at the Manor Estate: Check Before Visiting
An exhibition on hunting and nature was set up at the historic manor estate, and a horse farm was also established there. If you would like to include these in your itinerary, check in advance whether the exhibition is currently open and what visitor options are available at the horse farm.
A description from 2010 mentions carriage and horse-drawn wagon rides offered by the horse farm into the surrounding area, including to Ranzin Castle, the dairy training school in Schlatkow, and the Peene. Before making specific plans, check whether these rides are currently available. The REITSPORT-TEAM “GUT GRIBOW” association was also founded in Gribow in December 2012; in 2013, it offered various activities for all ages. If association or riding activities are important to your stay, ask about the current program.
Cycling: Distinguish Route Length from Current Conditions
Route 3, “North of the Peene,” passes through Gribow and is about 34 kilometers long; with a detour, the route is about 40 kilometers. For cyclists, it follows a field path parallel to the Swinow to Gut Gribow. The approximate distances can help you choose between the shorter route and an option with a detour. Check the signage and path conditions before setting off.
The Vorpommersche Dorfstraße archive also contains two circular cycling routes that pass through Gribow: “Where Otto of Bamberg Once Bathed” is listed as 31 kilometers long, and “In the Footsteps of the Vikings” as 46 kilometers. The route suggestions are old and have not been updated. Although you can compare the distances, do not use the archived information to plan a tour without first checking the current route.
Plan Your Stay Around Your Priorities
When choosing a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether the manor complex or cycling will be the main focus of your stay. The building history offers a clear historical connection, while a cycling tour makes route length and current conditions the main considerations. If you would like to include the exhibition, horse farm, or rides mentioned in earlier accounts, check the relevant visitor options and activities in advance. This will help you plan your day around the things that truly matter to you.
