Ückeritz is located on the island of Usedom between the Achterwasser and the Baltic Sea. The different sides of the town offer a good guide when planning a stay: a long beach, paths through the Wockninsee nature reserve and water sports on the Achterwasser. There are also cycling opportunities and cultural events at certain times of year.

Beach, cliffs and a nature promenade

Ückeritz beach is about seven kilometres long, with fine sand and a gentle slope towards the sea. The coast alternates between steep and flat sections, with shady beech forests lining the beach. A long wooden staircase leads down to the beach from the cliffs and offers a view of the Baltic Sea.

There are also different areas for beach use: a designated nudist area and a section of beach that is also accessible to dogs. The beach promenade largely has the character of a nature promenade. Cafés and snack bars are located nearby. This means you can treat the beach and a stop along the promenade as different parts of your stay, rather than limiting the coastal area to swimming alone.

Two nature trails with different focuses

The Wockninsee nature trail starts at Ückeritz Seebad railway station and runs for about three kilometres through the Wockninsee nature reserve. Information boards explain the area's flora and fauna. The route also crosses the Aalgrabe—a marsh channel between Wockninsee and the Achterwasser—over a small bridge. Nature, landscape and the information along the trail come together here.

A different focus awaits you on the Soil Discovery Trail: it begins right at the Usedom Rock Garden and takes you on an approximately one-hour circular walk through the world of soils, covering 1.5 kilometres. Its stated distance and duration make it easy to compare with the longer Wockninsee trail, which is about three kilometres long. When choosing, you can therefore consider whether you would prefer a walk focused on a specific subject or a longer route through a nature reserve.

Water sports and marina

Ückeritz marina is located on the Achterwasser. It offers around 50 berths for boats with a draft of less than one metre. The marina has toilets, electrical hookups and parking for cars and motorcycles. A sailing and surfing school is based there; beginners and children can hire boats, surfboards and other equipment at the marina.

Windsport Usedom offers sailing, windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding lessons in Ückeritz. This gives you a choice of options: lessons in several water sports or the opportunity to hire boats or equipment at the marina. Which one suits your stay depends on whether you are looking for an introduction or would rather hire equipment.

Events and cycling

During the warmer months, concerts and events such as Whitsun festivals and summer carnivals take place on the waterfront promenade. In autumn, an annual exhibition at the Haus des Gastes commemorates Usedom's painters. As these events are tied to particular seasons, it is worth checking the current dates before your trip.

Ückeritz's tourism information promotes the guided “Amber Spa Towns Tour” through the Amber Spa Towns for cyclists. If you would rather explore independently by bike, you can hire bicycles and e-bikes in Ückeritz or have them delivered. The guided tour and local hire are two different ways to include cycling in your travel plans.
