Pudagla is located between Achterwasser and Schmollensee in Usedom Nature Park. The two bodies of water provide a clear sense of the area’s landscape: Pudagla has a beach on Achterwasser, while the 38-metre-high Glaubensberg offers wide-ranging views across Schmollensee. There are also numerous hiking trails and two cultural landmarks: Pudagla Castle and the post mill. This makes water, outdoor activities and architectural history distinct themes to explore during a stay.

Water, views and trails

Pudagla’s beach is on Achterwasser. It is a convenient starting point for anyone who wants to centre their stay around the water. The Glaubensberg offers a different perspective: a path leading up to its summit at 38 metres provides wide-ranging views across Schmollensee. The beach and elevated viewpoint thus offer two different ways to take in the waterside landscape. Pudagla also has numerous hiking trails. If you want to focus on outdoor activities during your stay, you can explore these trails alongside the beach and viewpoint. When planning, you can therefore weigh up swimming, scenic views and hiking.

Trail markers and landmarks

Route 15 is marked with a yellow triangle. The Teufelsstein Trail goes around Konker Berg and through Schäfermoor; it also crosses the Pudagla area between Achterwasser and the main road. Teufelsstein is a protected natural monument. The two routes can be distinguished by their different points of reference: Route 15 is marked by a yellow symbol, while the Teufelsstein Trail is defined by its course and the landmarks along it. When choosing a hike, you can compare these features to find the route that suits you.

Post mill and castle

The Pudagla post mill stands on the western shore of Schmollensee. It is the only mill of this type in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania that has been preserved at its original site. After being restored in 1997, it became operational again; it has been open to the public since 2001. Its design, location and restoration together make this mill a distinctive landmark. Check current visiting arrangements before you go.

Pudagla Castle adds a vaulted cellar to the area’s cultural landmarks. The term refers to a cellar room with a vaulted ceiling. This brings two different architectural features into focus: the mill’s design, original location and restoration, and the castle’s vaulted cellar. If you are interested in architectural history, you can explore both as distinct themes during your stay.

Plan your journey and accommodation

Pudagla has public bus services. As timetables and routes may change, check connections before travelling. Another option is to take the train to Schmollensee and continue to Pudagla along the “Around Schmollensee” trail. If you choose this option, check both train connections and trail conditions before setting out.

If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Pudagla, first consider which theme you would like to shape your plans: the beach on Achterwasser, the hiking trails, views across Schmollensee, or the cultural history of the mill and castle.
