Lake Wolgast is the central landmark of Korswandt: the village lies right on the lake. A lakeside path leads through largely untouched beech forests; the surrounding area is also ideal for cycling and hiking trips, for example to the Kaiserbäder or the coast. Water, forest and destinations for excursions offer several ways to plan a stay.
Water at Lake Wolgast
Lake Wolgast offers opportunities for swimming, boating and fishing. The lakeside path offers a different focus: it leads through largely untouched beech forests. This means activities on the water and a walk through the forest landscape can be enjoyed as different ways to spend the day.
There is also a campsite with access to the water at Lake Wolgast. If you are considering it as a place to stay overnight, check current availability in advance.
Nature conservation and notable natural features
The Gothensee and Thurbruch nature reserve also includes Korswandt. Its conservation objectives include preserving and developing a eutrophic shallow lake with adjacent marshland as a breeding and feeding habitat for rare insects, birds and mammals. Restoring a rain-fed bog is also among its aims. Water bodies, marshland and the protection of their habitats are therefore among the defining natural features of the area.
A European beech in the municipality is protected and considered the oldest of its kind on Usedom. The Zierowberg observation tower lies west of the municipality, near the Polish border; from Zierowberg, you can enjoy views of the seaside resort of Ahlbeck and the Baltic coast. A protected tree in the municipality and a viewpoint overlooking the coast thus offer two different ways to connect with nature.
Excursions and other interests
The area around Korswandt is ideal for cycling and hiking trips, for example to the Kaiserbäder or the coast. You can narrow down the options by asking two questions: would you like to explore on foot or by bike, and are you drawn towards the Kaiserbäder or the coast? The Baltic Hills golf course is set in the hilly landscape of Korswandt, not far from the Kaiserbäder. They are therefore both a possible destination for an excursion and a nearby landmark for the golf course.
Vorpommern-Greifswald in a wider context
The wider travel region of Vorpommern-Greifswald takes you beyond Korswandt. The Baltic Coast Cycle Route, part of the EuroVelo EV10 route, runs through the district. Other regional cycling routes for exploring Vorpommern-Greifswald include the Stettiner Haff circular route and the Route of North German Romanticism. Before setting out on these routes, check current trail conditions and signage.
The Ueckermünder Heide also invites visitors to hike, cycle and ride horses in the district. As a cultural addition, the Pomeranian State Museum in Greifswald displays the Croy Tapestry from 1554, a unique cultural and historical document from the Reformation era. These examples broaden the regional picture to include nature, cycling and culture, while keeping Korswandt’s distinctive features in focus.
