Heinrichsruh brings together two distinct travel interests: a cycling route that passes through the village and an estate with a late Baroque history. The manor house and park lend the village a cultural and historical character, while the route offers a separate focus on cycling. Both can be included as distinct themes in your travel plans.

The Manor House and the Estate’s History

Heinrichsruh Manor House was built between 1750 and 1752 as a retirement residence for Christoph Ludwig Henrici; the Baroque garden at Heinrichsruh dates from the same period. The estate is regarded as an authentic late Baroque monument. The listed manor house is a three-winged Baroque complex with a courtyard of honour and half-timbered construction. Its period, function and architectural form offer concrete points of reference for understanding the estate’s history.

A glassworks originally also stood on the grounds. The glassmaker’s house has survived to this day. Another notable feature is the manor house’s garden hall, extensively painted with works by Claudia Hauptmann. Together, these features point to different aspects of the estate grounds: Baroque architecture, the history of the glassworks and the hall’s artistic decoration.

Since 2000, the manor house has been home to KĂĽnstlerhaus Vorpommern. Numerous concerts, masquerade balls and exhibitions have been held at Gut Heinrichsruh in connection with Vorpommersches KĂĽnstlerhaus.

Parkland and Cycling Route

Heinrichsruh lies in the southwestern part of the Ueckermünder Heide, an extensive area of forest and heathland. The manor house grounds include a French-style garden and peacocks. The restored park covers around 3 hectares. In places, 250-year-old yew trees line the driveway to the manor house. Alongside the building’s history, the park’s design and individual features of the grounds are therefore also part of the village’s character.

The 35-kilometre cycling route “From the Lagoon to the Friedländer Wiese” passes through Heinrichsruh. Its length makes it a specific cycling option to consider when planning a trip. It offers a different way to experience the village than the manor house’s history: the route passes through Heinrichsruh, while the architecture and park bring the estate’s history to the fore. Those wishing to combine both interests can treat them as separate themes for their trip.

Guided tours of the manor house were available spontaneously or by arrangement. Check current visiting options before you travel.

More cultural attractions in the wider destination of Torgelow

Torgelow itself also offers its own urban cultural context. Torgelow’s Christuskirche was consecrated on 3 April 1884 and is regarded as a visual landmark of the town. The Castrum Turglowe open-air museum illustrates High Medieval ways of life around the medieval castle ruins in the centre of Torgelow. The Castrum also includes a multimedia exhibition, opened in 2013, in the Villa von Torgelow at Friedrichstraße 1. It covers Otto IV, Margrave of Brandenburg, and includes dioramas depicting the life of a nobleman in the 13th century. Check current visitor arrangements before visiting the exhibition.
