Löcknitz offers a range of highlights for a stay: the lake and its shore paths, the lido, and historic sites such as the castle and the Gorkow smithy. Lake Löcknitz covers 56.5 hectares, and a hiking trail leads around the lake. When choosing accommodation in Löcknitz, you can first consider whether you would like to spend most of your time by the water, on the trails or visiting historic sites.

Lake, Lido and Trails

At the lido on Lake Löcknitz, you can rent boats and pedal boats; jetties and a diving tower are also part of the facilities. During the season from May to September, a lifeguard is on duty at the lido. Check this seasonal information before your trip and confirm the availability of rentals locally. The open-air pool by the lake also has a playground for all generations.

The trails offer a range of options, too: the natural monument “1,000-Year-Old Oak” on the Rötberg can be reached by a path along the lake’s north shore. South of the hiking trail around Lake Löcknitz, a path leads to a rampart built by the Slavs between the 5th and 12th centuries. This gives you several options to consider when planning: a circuit around the lake, a visit to the oak, or a historic site along a trail.

Löcknitz Castle and the Gorkow Smithy

The traces of the old Löcknitz Castle date back to the 12th century. The reconstructed, renovated castle tower, which is once again open to visitors, is built of brick and has a viewing platform overlooking Löcknitz and the Randow Valley. A staircase set into the metre-thick walls leads to the top. Six cellar rooms are located beneath the castle keep.

Regular and new events and projects take place in the castle courtyard and within the castle walls. These include markets, an open-air concert and the medieval castle festival. If you would like to plan your visit around a particular event, check the dates in advance.

The Gorkow smithy is in Gorkow, a district of Löcknitz. Built in 1865, it underwent extensive renovation in 1999. The Löcknitz–Dorothenwalde–Rothenklempenow cycle path passes right by the smithy. Barbecue evenings can be held around an open fire at the smithy. Alongside its architectural history, the site is therefore connected to a cycling route and offers the possibility of a group activity.

In the surrounding area between Löcknitz and Retzin, the outflow from Lake Leichen into the Randow is also known locally as the “Totengraben” (“Ditch of the Dead”). The legend associated with it was already known in 1887 and remains part of local lore today.
