Krusenfelde can be understood through its manor history: its original connection to Gramzow, the outlying estate and later traces tell of different periods. The wider travel destination of Vorpommern-Greifswald adds a broader setting of landscapes, cycle paths and cultural sites.
Manor History and Historical Traces
The Krusenfelde estate originally belonged to nearby Gramzow. In 1821, the von Kruse estate owners acquired the Gramzow estate and the Krusenfelde outlying estate. Around 1861, Wilhelm von Kruse had the Krusenfelde outlying estate established. This makes it possible to distinguish the change of ownership from the construction history: 1821 marks the acquisition, while around 1861 marks the establishment of the outlying estate. The Krusenfelde estate remained in the von Kruse family until its expropriation in 1945.
Nearby Krusenkrien Manor House is a separate historical point of interest: it was demolished around 1977. A few stables from the former complex remain; two of them are partly used as residential buildings. South of the inspector’s house, an overgrown rubble pile marks the former site of Krusenkrien Manor House. The names are not interchangeable: Krusenfelde refers to the estate and outlying estate, while Krusenkrien refers to the demolished manor house and its remaining traces.
There is a playground in the former park of Krusenfelde Manor House. Nearby Veste Landskron is open to visitors and is considered a rest stop for hikers and cyclists. The landscape park around Neetzow Castle was laid out by Peter Joseph Lenné. Neetzow Castle was converted into a hotel, which began operating in 2004.
Vorpommern-Greifswald as a Wider Setting
In the wider travel destination of Vorpommern-Greifswald, cycle routes pass through avenues, forests, meadows, natural rivers and lakes, villages and historic Hanseatic towns. The Baltic Sea Cycle Route is part of the EuroVelo EV10 route and enters the district. The Stettiner Haff Circular Route and the Route of North German Romanticism are among the regional cycle routes for exploring Vorpommern-Greifswald. Check current trail conditions and signage before planning your route.
The cultural sites also differ in their focus. The Juliett U-461 is housed as a museum in PeenemĂĽnde harbour and can be explored on a tour. Check current visitor information before visiting. The Pomeranian State Museum in Greifswald displays the Croy Tapestry from 1554, a unique cultural and historical artefact from the Reformation period. In Anklam, his hometown, the Otto Lilienthal Museum is dedicated to aviation pioneer, mechanical engineer and humanist Otto Lilienthal; it is a technical museum focused on a person.
The UeckermĂĽnde Heath invites visitors to hike, cycle and ride horses. A boat trip in Ukranenland Torgelow uses the first reconstructed Slavic boat in Germany; participants have to row themselves. Regional activities thus also differ in whether they involve a hike, a cycle ride or active participation on board.
