Eggesin offers a variety of reasons to visit: Eggesiner See is a protected wetland with a circular trail, while the harbor and the Randow draw attention to the water. There are also insights into local history and the history of barge navigation, as well as regional specialties. When planning your trip, you can consider these as distinct areas of interest.

Circular Trail and Wetland at Eggesiner See

At around 90 hectares, Eggesiner See is mostly still a very wet, infilling peat bog. Reed beds, swamp forests, small areas of floating mats and species-rich wet meadows characterize the area. It is protected as both a Special Area of Conservation under the Habitats Directive and a bird protection area. The lake is therefore not just a body of water, but also a diverse wetland habitat.

The circular hiking trail around the lake is about 11.5 kilometers long. It starts on a field track between the Schüler-Jugend-Zentrum and the Haus der Geborgenheit care home on Stettiner Straße; from there, it is signposted. The distance provides a specific guide if you want to include a loop around the lake in your day’s plans.

Along the trail, information boards describe the animals that live there, rare protected plants and different types of tree stands. The topics combine nature observation with information about the habitats around the lake. Those interested in wetlands will find not only details about the route here, but also specific information about the plants, wildlife and tree stands that characterize the area.

Water Activities on the Randow and at the Harbor

The waterway rest area on the Randow offers numerous mooring options in Eggesin, directly on the river and in a sheltered bay. Canoes, pedal boats and fishing boats can be rented at the harbor. Tours on a Randow raft are also offered from there.

This means there are several different ways to enjoy the water: mooring at the rest area, boat rental at the harbor and raft tours.

Local History, Barge Navigation and the Nature Park

The Eggesin local history museum presents village and town history through exhibits, as well as written and photographic documents. Topics include the timber and brick industries, barge navigation and Eggesin as a garrison town. This takes the story beyond individual historical objects to explore different aspects of local history.

The tradition and history of barge navigation on the Szczecin Lagoon are also the focus of the Kahnschifferzentrum on the Randow. The visitor and information center for the “Am Stettiner Haff” Nature Park is located at Eggesin station and features a modern exhibition about the nature park’s distinctive natural environment. Eggesin therefore offers both cultural history and an exhibition about the natural environment.

At the KulturWerkstatt Eggesin, visitors can watch artists and craftspeople at work. During KUNST:OFFEN, visitors are welcome to look around and take part. This offers a different perspective from the town history exhibitions: here, the focus is on artistic and craft work.

Blueberries, Seasonal Cuisine and the Market

The Eggesiner Blaubeerscheune, rebuilt in 2006 beside the town hall, welcomes visitors and provides information about blueberries. It offers a changing seasonal snack menu, with examples including herb bratwurst and yeast dumplings with blueberries, as well as coffee and homemade baked goods. Because the menu changes with the season, these dishes are examples rather than a fixed selection.

The Schlemmermeile offers regional specialties such as homemade blueberry cake and game. The Pommerscher Bauernmarkt offers something different: natural products and handicrafts. Together, these options offer different insights into regional cuisine and crafts, but should not be understood as one combined event program.
