Dummerstorf Manor House was built between 1714 and 1717 in the Baroque style as the ancestral seat of the Mecklenburg noble von Preen family and is a listed building. An association also uses its two halls for public cultural events. The association makes them available for events such as concerts, readings and talks. If you have a particular date in mind, ask the association for the latest event details.

Historic Manor House and Village Churches

The village churches in the districts also have their own distinctive features. The village church of St. Godehard in Kessin has a carved Madonna and Child dating from around 1300, as well as a carved figure of Bishop St. Godehard from the 15th century. In Petschow, the village church is a fieldstone building with wall and vault paintings from the mid-14th century; it also has a richly carved altarpiece dating from 1707. The figurative woodcarving in Kessin and the combination of painting and altar construction in Petschow thus stand side by side as distinct historical highlights.

The Kavelstorf motorway church offers another specific opportunity to visit: it is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Its daily opening hours give you a clear time frame if you would like to include this place in your plans.

In the surrounding area, in Göldenitz near Dummerstorf, you’ll find miniland MV. Along a model road network of federal roads and motorways, visitors can discover more than 70 detailed, true-to-scale building models. This offers a different focus from the manor house and village churches: rather than historic buildings at their original locations, the main attraction here is true-to-scale models in a roadscape.

More themes in the wider Rostock travel destination

In Sternberg Lake District Nature Park, the landscape is shaped by deeply incised breakthrough valleys along the Warnow, numerous lakes, picturesque hills and extensive forests. The park is particularly suited to hiking and cycling. At Wildpark-MV, visitors can explore the park independently or join guided hikes, including wolf, owl and evening hikes. This means the wider Rostock travel destination offers both independent nature exploration and guided tours.

The Wolhynian Resettlers Museum in Linstow offers a different cultural focus. Guided tours use ethnographic objects, photos and documents to tell the story of the Volhynian Germans, from the mid-19th century to their settlement in Mecklenburg after the Second World War. Tours are available for groups and individuals. The museum thus offers a clearly defined thematic perspective on regional history, while the manor house and village churches highlight other aspects of architectural and cultural history.

The historic Molli narrow-gauge railway runs between KĂĽhlungsborn and Bad Doberan and is the oldest narrow-gauge railway on the Baltic coast. For broader transport information, buses and trains in Rostock district operate as part of the regional transport network; with one ticket, holidaymakers can travel throughout the region, including the Hanseatic and university city of Rostock. This information complements the local cultural themes with a railway route and a regional perspective on public transport.
