A neoclassical manor house, a listed park and a preserved moat give Nustrow a clear focus on culture and gardens. When planning your trip, you can decide whether you mainly want to explore the local manor house and gardens or also include other themes in the wider Rostock travel destination.
The manor house and its architectural history
Nustrow Manor House is a neoclassical manor house. Severin had it built in 1830 on the ring walls of a former moated castle complex. This brings together the architectural history of the manor house and the memory of an older castle complex in one place. A remnant of the former castle’s artificial ditches and ramparts has also been preserved and is called the Wallgraben (moat). The name refers to the older complex, while the manor house makes the neoclassical period visible.
The ballroom is also part of the house’s character: historic ceiling paintings define the room, which can accommodate up to 90 people. Visitors interested in architecture can therefore explore not only the building’s exterior but also a specifically identified historic interior.
Park, tulip tree and rose garden
The park of the manor estate covers almost ten hectares and is listed as a historic monument. Located right next to the manor house, it invites visitors to take a stroll. The tulip tree’s blossoms provide a seasonal highlight each year. Gut Nustrow also has a fragrant rose garden surrounded by old fruit trees. The park and rose garden offer different garden experiences: the spacious listed grounds on the one hand, and roses among old fruit trees on the other.
The Kleine Gutshaustour (Small Manor House Tour) starts and ends in Nustrow. This may be of interest when planning if you are looking for a named tour with a clear connection to a particular place. The park and moat complement the view of the manor house with landscape and historical aspects; the park’s location directly beside the house is also relevant for a stroll.
Cake and coffee at the manor estate
There are two different places to stop for a break at the estate: the café in the manor house with its slate roof serves tarts, cakes and a variety of coffee specialties. The restored tea pavilion in the manor house’s orchard serves cake as well as tea or coffee. The offerings therefore differ both in location and in their choice of drinks. If you would like to include a café and garden in your plans, you can keep these two options in mind when deciding whether to visit.
More themes in the wider Rostock travel destination
The wider Rostock travel destination also encompasses other landscape and cultural themes. In Sternberger Seenland Nature Park, deeply cut breakthrough valleys along the Warnow, numerous lakes, hills and extensive forests shape the landscape; the nature park is especially suited to hiking and cycling. Guided tours at the Wolhynian Resettler Museum in Linstow offer a different way to explore regional history. There, ethnographic objects, photographs and documents tell the story of the Volhynian Germans from the mid-19th century through their resettlement in Mecklenburg after the Second World War. The range of themes in the wider Rostock travel destination thus extends from outdoor activities to a specific interpretation of history.
Tailor your accommodation search to Nustrow
If the manor house, park, garden and offerings at the estate are your main travel interests, you can focus your search for a holiday apartment on Nustrow. If you also want to include other themes in the wider Rostock travel destination, compare which location best matches the priorities you have planned.
