Kirch Mulsow draws attention to tangible traces of cultural history: a listed village church with different construction and furnishing dates, a mausoleum north of the churchyard and other memorial sites at the church. Anyone interested in architectural forms, inscriptions and the history of memorials will find a clear thematic focus here.

Village Church, Organ and Altar Group

The Evangelical Lutheran village church in Kirch Mulsow dates from the 14th century. Its eastern section is built of brick, while the western section is made of fieldstone; the low wooden west tower dates from the 18th century. The different materials and dates give the building a clearly distinguishable character. The church is a listed monument.

The furnishings also have their own dates. The church has a Friese III organ dating from 1860, which was restored in 2005. The two dates therefore mark different stages: the instrument’s creation and its later restoration. A Late Gothic Crucifixion group from the 15th century stands on the masonry altar block. The architecture, organ and altar group each offer a different perspective on the church—from its building materials to a 19th-century instrument and a Late Gothic work of art.

Mausoleum and Memorial Sites

North of the churchyard is the mausoleum, the family burial place of the Reichhoff family from Carvensdorf. Remnants of the family coat of arms can still be seen on its iron door. A sandstone sarcophagus stands at the church’s north-west corner; its inscription names the manor owner Russow. A war memorial with a name plaque stands south of the church, commemorating those who fell in the First World War.

These sites each have a different emphasis: the mausoleum is associated with a family, the sarcophagus bears an inscription with a name, and the memorial commemorates those who fell in the First World War. Together with the church’s furnishings, they shape Kirch Mulsow’s focus on cultural history.

Kirch Mulsow in the wider Carinerland

Kirch Mulsow is part of the Carinerland. The wider destination is a hilly ground moraine landscape with clear streams, extensive fields and dense forests, as well as a rich variety of animal and plant life. The Carinerland lies between Wismar and Rostock, near the Baltic Sea and about 13 kilometres from the Salzhaff. This regional landscape provides the broader setting; the buildings and memorial sites described here are part of Kirch Mulsow’s focus.

The places in the Carinerland also offer a range of cultural and landscape features. Alt Karin has an Early Gothic brick church with a ribbed cross vault. Krempin has a nature trail, while Ravensberg is home to a 19th-century manor house. In Neu Karin, the village structure has largely been preserved as a farming and crafts village.

In Danneborth, parts of an estate complex have been preserved, including a Baroque manor house with later Neoclassical alterations and a large, double-shell barn. The estate park there includes mature standard fruit trees and a pond with an artificially created island. Moitin is home to a lime tree more than 800 years old, with a trunk circumference of 7.50 metres, which is one of the oldest trees in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It is commonly known as the “wedding and court lime tree”; the name refers to other customs of the rural population. The Entenmoor nature reserve near Moitin provides a habitat for some rare bird species.

Seasonal festivities in the Carinerland include Easter bonfires, summer parties, harvest festivals and Advent markets; visitors are welcome. If you would like to include a festival in your travel plans, check the specific date in advance. This adds a seasonal consideration to the regional perspective, while Kirch Mulsow itself is defined above all by its village church and the nearby memorial sites.
