Carinerland lies between Wismar and Rostock, near the Baltic Sea and 13 km from the Salzhaff lagoon. Its villages each have their own character: Alt Karin has an Early Gothic brick church with an impressive ribbed vault; Neu Karin has largely retained the layout of a village of farmers and craftsmen. In Moitin, an over 800-year-old lime tree and the Entenmoor nature reserve draw attention. The area also has a history of manor houses and parks, as well as seasonal festivals. When planning a trip, you can choose from architectural and village history, nature and seasonal events.
Village History and Architectural Styles
The church in Alt Karin brings together three clearly identifiable features: Early Gothic style, brick construction and an impressive ribbed vault. Architecture enthusiasts can appreciate the early style, the building material and a distinctive vault detail. Ravensberg has a 19th-century manor house. Danneborth offers a different aspect of manor-house architecture: parts of a manor complex remain, including a Baroque manor house remodelled in the Neoclassical style and a large, double-walled stable building. The contrast highlights their different characteristics: Ravensberg is defined by its century, while Danneborth stands out for its architectural layers and surviving buildings. Neu Karin complements the individual buildings and the manor complex with the largely preserved layout of a village of farmers and craftsmen. The church, manor house, manor complex and village layout thus offer different perspectives on local history. In a ribbed vault, the ribs intersect.
Nature, Trees and Parks
The ancient lime tree in Moitin has a trunk circumference of 7.50 metres, is over 800 years old and is one of the oldest trees in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is popularly known as the “Wedding and Court Lime Tree”; the name points to other customs of the rural population. Its size and name offer two different ways of looking at the same tree: its exceptional dimensions and its connection with rural customs. The Entenmoor nature reserve near Moitin is a habitat for some rare bird species. Krempin has a nature trail. Danneborth Manor Park is home to old standard fruit trees and a pond with an artificial island. These nature attractions can be compared: the named trail, the birdlife in the nature reserve and the features of the park. Consider whether you are especially interested in a walking trail, bird species or park design.
Seasonal Festivals
Seasonal festivals are held in Carinerland, including Easter bonfires, summer parties, harvest festivals and Advent markets; visitors are welcome. The examples range from Easter to Advent, offering different seasonal reasons to visit. If a particular festival is important to your plans, check its date before travelling. This will help you decide whether to plan your stay around an event or focus on architectural history and nature.
