After about 500 metres in Dalkendorf, the Ice Age Route leaves the main road and heads towards Klein Roge. The first section has steep climbs. The tour includes paved farm and forest tracks, concrete slabs and asphalt. When planning, it is worth considering the gradients and surfaces separately: the climbs call for a different decision from the changing surfaces. When planning your day, you can take both aspects into account individually. The note about steep climbs refers to the first section, not to the entire tour as a whole.
Cycling Tours and Trail Conditions
Agricultural and forestry work can change the condition of the trails. Signage and road conditions can also change; check them before setting off.
The section of the Ice Age Route between Dalkendorf and Teterow follows a minor road. Dalkendorf is also included in the Teterower Heidberge cycle tour. On the Ice Age Route, you can take the steep climbs and the road section into account; the Teterower Heidberge cycle tour adds another option that includes Dalkendorf. This puts two different planning considerations in focus: steep climbs on the first section and a minor road between Dalkendorf and Teterow.
Near Klein Roge, a rest area offers a place to leave your bicycle and take a short walk through Roger Os. If you plan to take the walk, you can leave your bicycle at the rest area and cover the short distance on foot. Access conditions may change; check them before your visit.
Staying at Bartelshagen Manor House
Bartelshagen Manor House in Dalkendorf offers three furnished holiday apartments. Guests have access to parking for cars and a place to store bicycles. As the accommodation and visitor facilities may change, check the current conditions before booking.
Guests can fish in a small pond directly in front of the house. Sheep, horses, deer and cranes can be observed in the area around the manor house; sightings vary. Fishing is restricted to guests of the house, while wildlife sightings cannot be planned. The conditions for these two activities around the manor house are therefore different.
Landscape in the wider Nordwestmecklenburg destination
In the wider destination of Nordwestmecklenburg, the “Nordwestmecklenburg Hills with Wismar Bay” landscape lies to the north, and the “West Mecklenburg Lake District with Lake Schwerin” lies to the south. Terminal moraine ridges, gently undulating ground moraine plateaus, steep and flat coastal sections, meltwater and drainage channels, and outwash plains shape the landscape of Nordwestmecklenburg. Schloss Gadebusch, a Renaissance castle dating from 1573 in the town of Gadebusch, is another example of the diversity of the wider Nordwestmecklenburg destination. It is considered a rare example of Mecklenburg or North German Brick Gothic Renaissance and features reliefs in the regional Johann Albrecht style.
