An unspoilt swimming area on Lake Inselsee and a school history dating back to 1770 give Mühl Rosin two specific points of interest for a stay: time by the water and insights into the village’s development. There are also cycling connections with links to Güstrow and Bölkow. The village centre is located on the Mühlbach stream. Depending on your interests, you can focus on the lake, local history or cycling, and spread these activities over several outings.

Swimming Area and Activities on Lake Inselsee

The Mühl Rosin swimming area is in the Güstrow section of the lake, on the south-eastern shore of Lake Inselsee. It is unspoilt and has a small sunbathing lawn and a jetty. You can take a round trip on Lake Inselsee aboard an electrically powered launch for up to 20 people; alternatively, you can sail or row. This means you can choose to focus on time at the swimming area or on activities on the water. If you are planning to take part in water-based activities, check their availability with the provider before your trip.

School History from 1770 to the Regional School

Local school history dates back to 1770, when children began receiving instruction in Mühl Rosin. The Historic School in Mühl Rosin documents this early history. The first school building was constructed in 1859; children from the village were taught in its rooms until 1950. The chronology distinguishes the early start of teaching from the later construction of a school building: nearly nine decades lie between the two.

On 1 September 1950, classes began at the Mühl Rosin Central School for 159 pupils in three classrooms initially. It opened as the first new school building in the then Schwerin district and is now a regional school. Some rooms in the modern extension are now used, among other things, by the municipal library and municipal archive.

Traces of Local History

The Erbpachthof No. 3, known as “Honigberg,” is also part of the village’s history. Nothing remains visible of its former residential and farm buildings. An information board tells visitors about the former residents and their lives. Unlike the school’s history, the focus here is on the people who lived on the farm. If you are planning to visit the board, check its current condition on site.

Cycle Routes with Different Points of Reference

A 5 km cycle path runs from Mühl Rosin to Güstrow along Lake Inselsee. Check the current route using cycling maps before setting out. Information is also available on the construction progress of the cycle path between Bölkow and Mühl Rosin: its first construction phase was completed in 2022. The completed sections provide a continuous cycling connection between three municipalities, linked to the medium-sized centre of Güstrow; one section runs between Bölkow and Mühl Rosin. The information answers different planning questions: the route to Güstrow has a stated length, while the description of the construction phases places the connection between municipalities in context.
