Roggentin combines a documented history with a village community centre that serves as a cultural centre. The municipality of Roggentin also has nature trails around Kösterbeck. When planning your trip, you can focus on local history, cultural activities or nature experiences.

Local History and Culture

Roggentin was first mentioned in a document in 1219 under the name Rokentin, as property of Sonnenkamp Monastery in Neukloster. The reference links the place to a specific historical name and ownership. The village community centre was redeveloped from Roggentin’s former consumer cooperative barracks and officially opened on 21 June 2001. Since then, it has served as a cultural centre, providing space for cultural and sports activities, courses and other events.

Regular hobby afternoons at the village community centre are also a meeting place for older residents and anyone else interested. Since 2008, the Adventist congregation in Roggentin has held church services in the “Wooden Church”. Alongside the village’s early documented history, these local meeting places and activities reflect different aspects of community life.

Hiking Trails and Nature in the Municipality

Visitors can use the public hiking trails in the Kösterbeck nature reserve, which are located within the municipality of Roggentin and owned by the municipality. The municipal maintenance depot maintains them regularly. Since 2004, the Kösterbeck nature reserve has been part of the European FFH protected area “Flora, Fauna, Habitats: Warnow with Small Tributaries”.

The landscape of “Rostock Switzerland” can be explored along numerous hiking trails, and Kösterbeck is a popular starting point for trips there. As a themed activity, the “Nature and Homeland” interest group of the Roggentin branch of Volkssolidarität regularly organises botanical walks and bird-song walks in the nature reserve. Independent hikes and themed nature walks are therefore two different ways to explore the area.

A wooden bridge funded by the municipalities of Roggentin and Dummerstorf provides a crossing over the Kösterbeck watercourse between Fresendorf and Beselin. This named crossing is also part of the local landscape for anyone wishing to explore nature in the area.
