The regional R4 cycle route runs from Demern via Rehna to Vitense Parber and covers 10 km. For planning a trip focused on Vitense, this is a practical starting point alongside Rehna’s historical attractions. Cycling and culture offer different focuses, so whether seasonal tour dates or the visiting arrangements for cultural attractions are central to your plans depends on which you prioritise.
Cycling between Rehna and Vitense Parber
Rehna organises regional cycling tours from May to October; there is an e-bike charging station at Freiheitsplatz. This means that, alongside the R4 route, seasonal organised tours are also available for planning. Tour dates and charging-station arrangements may change seasonally. Check both in advance if you plan to base your trip around them.
The regional R3 route connects the Radegast corridor with Schönberg; Vitense Parber is designated as a visitor area. Unlike the 10 km R4, which runs from Demern via Rehna to Vitense Parber, R3 offers a different focus: the corridor and Schönberg take centre stage, with Vitense Parber also identified as a visitor area. The routes thus offer different points of reference for making your choice. Surfaces and signage may change; if necessary, check the current conditions before setting out.
Monastery and local history in Rehna
The historic monastery town of Rehna can be explored on an audio tour with 17 stops. Topics include half-timbered houses, artesian wells and the former monastery complex. The tour therefore focuses not only on the former monastery, but also takes in other features of the townscape.
Visitors can tour the Monastery Museum and church at Rehna Monastery. An audio guide is available in German and English. The monastery garden, Kneipp pool and barefoot path are also free to access. Visiting arrangements and access conditions may change seasonally; check them before your visit.
The Deutsches Haus is open to visitors. It houses the collection of one of Rehna’s last shoemaking workshops, as well as historical Mecklenburg costume items. This makes it a cultural attraction in its own right, alongside the monastery and audio tour. Opening arrangements may change; check the current opening times before your visit.
Vitense Parber in the Radegast Valley
The restored barns in Vitense Parber are also designated as a special tourist destination and visitor area in the Radegast Valley. This architectural focus differs from the historical stops in Rehna: here, the barns take centre stage, while in Rehna the focus is on the monastery complex, townscape and collection items. Check the current restoration status before your visit.
