Zierow lies directly on Wismar Bay and has about two kilometres of Baltic Sea coastline at Eggers Wiek. This gives you a choice of different ways to spend your stay: the natural beach, the European long-distance path E9, and cycling routes to Wismar or Boltenhagen. The town’s features can help you decide whether to choose Zierow for a stay by the water or as a starting point for walking and cycling routes.

Natural Beach at Eggers Wiek

Zierow’s natural beach has a gently sloping entry into the water and a large beach playground. Both access to the water and a dedicated play area are useful points of reference for your day at the beach. If you want to make spending time by the water the focus of your stay, the beach is an obvious choice; the E9 and cycling routes offer a different way to spend your time here.

Hiking the European Long-Distance Path E9

The European long-distance path E9 runs through Zierow. One route from here leads via Hohen Wieschendorf to Boltenhagen; another follows Eggers Wiek via Hoben to Wismar. The intermediate places distinguish the two directions: Hohen Wieschendorf is on the route to Boltenhagen, while Hoben is on the path along Eggers Wiek to Wismar. When choosing a hike, you can first consider which of the two destinations you want to head for.

Cycling Routes to Wismar and Boltenhagen

From Zierow, cyclists can reach the Hanseatic city of Wismar in about 7 km and the Baltic Sea resort of Boltenhagen in 18 km via the Baltic Coast Cycle Route. These figures offer a direct comparison of the two cycling destinations: Wismar is the shorter ride, while Boltenhagen is farther away. There is also a handy amenity for e-bikes at the beach: during the summer months, a “Charge4Bike” charging station is located next to the DLRG lifeguard tower. Up to four e-bikes and pedelecs can be charged there at the same time. You can take its seasonal availability into account when planning a cycling trip to the beach.

Town Centre and Visitor Information

The tourist information office and Zierow community centre are located in the town centre. They provide information about the village, its surroundings and the Northwest Mecklenburg region. All rooms and facilities at the tourist information office and community centre that are available to visitors have step-free access. The manor house forms the centre of Zierow and provides another point of reference in the town.

Village History and Regional Landscape

The small village museum provides information about the history of the municipality of Zierow. Information about the exhibits is provided in writing. If you plan to visit the museum during your stay, check the current visiting arrangements before you go.

In the wider travel destination of Northwest Mecklenburg, the landscape area “Northwest Mecklenburg Hills with Wismar Bay” lies in the north; in the south, the region includes the “West Mecklenburg Lake District with Lake Schwerin.” Northwest Mecklenburg’s landscape is shaped by terminal moraines, gently rolling ground moraine plateaus, steep and gently sloping stretches of coast, meltwater and drainage channels, and outwash plains. This regional perspective adds a broader landscape context to Zierow’s specific coastal setting.
