For a stay in Testorf-Steinfort, two themes stand out: spending time outdoors and the history of rural settlements. A newly created park, woodland on the edge of the village and a cycling path offer opportunities to get active; manor estate and farming village structures add a historical perspective.

Getting outdoors

The newly created park in Testorf-Steinfort offers opportunities for sports, play and relaxation; woodland on the edge of the village is ideal for a walk. This means you can spend time outdoors in different ways, with activities in the park or a walk in the woods. For cyclists, a cycling path runs parallel to the B 208 in the municipal districts of Schönhof and Fräulein-Steinfort. Check the conditions along the route locally if you plan to include the cycling path in your itinerary.

Manor estate and village layout

The Testorf-Steinfort manor estate ensemble is largely preserved and includes a manor house, stables, barns, a pond and smallholders’ houses. In Testorf, the typical layout of a manor village is recognizable: the manor house is set among farm and residential buildings, as well as the pond. This offers a way to consider the settlement pattern beyond a single building.

WĂĽstenmark lies on the Stepenitz and has preserved much of its former layout as an old farming village. Compared with the manor village layout typical of Testorf, it represents a different historical settlement type. For travelers interested in rural architecture and settlement history, this contrast offers a tangible point of interest.

Village scenery and orientation

Seefeld lies at the southern edge of a forest, on the road between Schönhof and the road toward Schwerin. Together with Wüstenmark’s location on the Stepenitz, this provides different landscape reference points: a river, a forest edge and a roadside location. These specific features give each of the named places its own landscape setting.

History and Schönhof Manor House

The Neckel tenant family managed the Testorf and Steinfort estate, which covered about 522 hectares, in the first half of the 19th century. Schönhof Manor House was built around 1870; parts of the manor house date from 1750, and its architecture features late Neoclassical elements. Its construction date, older building sections and stylistic features each offer a different perspective on the house.

Northwest Mecklenburg in a broader context

Within the wider destination of Northwest Mecklenburg, the “Northwest Mecklenburg Hills with Wismar Bay” landscape area lies in the north, while the “West Mecklenburg Lake District with Lake Schwerin” lies in the south. Terminal moraine ridges, gently rolling ground moraine plateaus, steep and shallow coastal stretches, meltwater and drainage channels, and outwash plains shape the landscape of Northwest Mecklenburg. These regional landforms broaden the view of individual village settings with a wider perspective. Together, they show the county’s range of landscapes, from geological landforms to coastal stretches.
