Bobitz combines a hilly, undulating landscape shaped by glaciers with trails for a range of activities and distinctive brick architecture. When planning your stay, you can explore nature and birdwatching as well as churches, manor house history and the accommodation options available.

Landscape and Birdlife

Bobitz’s landscape was shaped by glaciers; hills and undulating terrain define its character. The Dambecker Lakes are a particular highlight for nature enthusiasts. The Dambecker Lakes Nature Reserve covers 195 hectares. The lakes are a resting place for migrating northern European geese; the area around the Small and Great Dambecker Lakes is also a resting and breeding ground for birds and a destination for ornithologists.

The landscape around the lakes is also part of this natural area: shore zones, meadows, pastures, forests and marshes are included in a 1,354-hectare FFH area. The figures refer to different designated areas: 195 hectares for the nature reserve and 1,354 hectares for the FFH area. This makes birdwatching a distinct focus alongside the hilly landscape.

Trails and Activities

Nature trails for hiking, horseback riding and cycling run through the recreation area around Lake Tressow. Another way to explore the Dambecker Lakes is via field and meadow paths, where you can travel on foot or by bicycle between Drispeth, Dambeck, Wendisch Rambow and Zickhusen. These descriptions refer to different trail options and do not define a single shared route. Choose the area that best suits your preferred activity as the focus of your stay.

A trial event is held on Sandberg each year. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the dates for your intended travel period. This lets you include the event in your plans without assuming a specific date.

Churches, Manor House and Retreat

The churches in Beidendorf and Dambeck offer two different examples of North German brick architecture. Beidendorf Church is a 13th-century building in the North German Brick Gothic style. Dambeck Church dates from the 15th century and is a late Gothic brick building. Their dates span the 13th to the 15th century, bringing different periods of Brick Gothic architecture into focus.

The town’s history is also linked to a specific date: Bobitz was first mentioned as a manor in 1340. Tressow Castle is a late Neoclassical manor house built between 1862 and 1865 south of Lake Tressow. Kloster Gut Saunstorf opened as a retreat for guests in 2010. Events led by spiritual teachers are held there, and the venue also offers a peaceful setting for seminar and retreat groups.

Accommodation and Travel Planning

Tressow Castle offers holiday apartments on the upper floor with views of the park and surrounding countryside. If this type of accommodation suits you, check availability for your specific travel dates. No other type of accommodation should be inferred: the accommodation described consists of holiday apartments.

Bobitz has road access via the B208, a rail connection and the Bobitz interchange on the A20. As no timetables are provided, check current departure times for your train journey. Saunstorf’s BUDDHA Café & Deli can be reached via a field path from Beidendorf/Luttersdorf or via the cycle path beside the B208 from the Beidendorf-Bobitz entrance. These are different routes; the field path is not identified as a cycle path.
