In Woldegk, windmills, brick Gothic architecture and historic town fortifications offer different ways to explore the town’s history. The mills reflect the milling trade, St. Peter’s Church represents North German Brick Gothic, and a walking tour reveals sections of the fieldstone town wall. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Woldegk, these features offer concrete clues as to whether its cultural and historical attractions suit your travel interests.

Windmills and the Milling Trade

The Ehlert Mill retains its original 1886 condition, was reconstructed in 1991, received faithfully reproduced sails in 1993, and is operated as a demonstration site. The dates mark different stages: its original condition, its reconstruction and the later addition of the sails. This makes it possible to distinguish the individual stages of its history chronologically.

The Fröhlcke Mill is the largest of Woldegk’s five windmills and stands by the town lake. The Gotteskamp Mill is Woldegk’s fourth windmill and is known as the “Moulin Rouge of Woldegk” because of its red color. The mills can therefore be distinguished by specific features: the Fröhlcke Mill by its size and location, and the Gotteskamp Mill by its place in the sequence and its name, inspired by its color.

The Woldegk Municipal Office offers individually bookable guided tours of the museum mill for small and large groups. On two floors, groups learn about the milling trade and the life of millers. Please contact the Woldegk Municipal Office in advance to make arrangements.

Church and Town Wall

St. Peter’s Church in Woldegk dates from around 1250 and is an example of North German Brick Gothic. Its church tower was renovated in 2006/2007 and inaugurated on October 6, 2007. The church thus reveals both its medieval origins and the later, more recent history of its tower.

The historic town wall encloses the town center over a length of 1,442 m. On a walk through Woldegk, visitors can discover sections of the 14th-century fieldstone town wall, extending for around 700 m, as well as the partially preserved rampart. The two measurements refer to different perspectives: the wall around the town center and the sections of the fieldstone wall that can be discovered on a walk.

Mecklenburg Lake District: Nature in the Wider Travel Area

The Müritz National Park is part of the wider travel destination of the Mecklenburg Lake District. Forests, bogs, lakes and expansive meadows shape its landscape. The Müritz National Park hiking trail explores the park’s landscape types and special features over nine stages: it follows lakeshores, passes through ancient forests and by inland dunes, and leads to the source of the Havel. Certified nature and landscape guides offer informative tours through the national park, including guided visits to the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest of Serrahn and tours from the water.

At the Damerower Werder bison reserve, visitors can observe the animals. The forest adventure trail there features climbing activities, an anthill house, an exhibition with touch and viewing panels, and a dendrophone.
