Groß Miltzow brings together a distinctive manor house landscape and buildings dating from several centuries. The churches in Kreckow and Golm add to the picture within the municipality; their architectural styles differ significantly. Kreckow combines a medieval fieldstone building with a later tower and Baroque crown, while Golm features a granite west portal and a subsequently added half-timbered structure. If you are planning a stay, you can use this layout as a guide: the manor house and parkland in the town, churches and other architectural history throughout the municipality.
For road travel, the L 281 is an important point of reference. It runs north–south through Groß Miltzow and connects with the federal highways B 104, B 198 and B 192. Check current traffic conditions for your travel date when planning your route.
Manor House and Parkland
The Groß Miltzow manor complex lies directly beside a lake; its farm buildings and park shape the town’s landscape. The Vorderer See is part of the manor park. Its design follows a landscape-park concept influenced by Lenné. A bridge creates a sightline to the house and is thus part of the described visual composition.
The manor house was built around 1760 for the von Dewitz family. The building has three bays and a three-storey central avant-corps. The two-storey Baroque building bears a combined coat of arms of the von Dewitz and von Maltzahn families; in the mid-19th century, it was remodelled in the Neo-Renaissance style. Several layers of design can therefore be seen in a single building: the Baroque structure and the later alteration of the façade.
The manor complex covers more than four hectares, is completely fenced, and is not open to the public. Check its access status again before making a specific visit. The historic complex also includes the so-called Luisenhaus and an 18th-century riding hall. According to tradition, Queen Louise stayed overnight at the Luisenhaus.
Churches in the Municipality
The church in Kreckow is a carefully built rectangular fieldstone structure dating from the late 13th century. Its tower dates from 1749; the upper section is octagonal and topped by a Baroque cupola. Inside are an 18th-century pulpit altar and an 1815 epitaph with coats of arms and pictorial panels. Memorial monuments in the churchyard are also part of the historic heritage.
The rectangular fieldstone church in Golm was built around 1350. Its granite west portal provides a contrast in materials to the fieldstone structure. The half-timbered tower was added after the Thirty Years’ War. In Golm, the old manor house in the manor park and the church are listed as attractions. Comparing it with Kreckow reveals two different architectural histories: here, the medieval building with its striking portal takes centre stage, while there, the fieldstone structure is distinguished by its later tower with Baroque influences.
