Wildberg combines historic landmarks with nature and swimming experiences at Lake Kastorfer See. Slavic rampart remains, brick churches, woodland paths and a bathing area offer different ways to shape your stay. You can decide whether history, time outdoors or a refreshing swim in summer will be the main reason for your trip.
Rampart remains and brick churches
Near Lake Kastorfer See, the remains of three former Slavic ramparts dating from the 7th to the 12th century have been preserved. This long span of time points to several centuries of history; at the same time, these are remains of former fortifications. Two brick churches in Wildberg and Wolkow offer another architectural trace. They were built in the 13th century and are still visible today. The comparison makes the difference in age clear: the ramparts belong to an earlier period than the churches, and the type of evidence also differs—fortification remains in one case, brick buildings in the other.
Woodland paths and nature at Lake Kastorfer See
The area around Lake Kastorfer See is characterised by woodland and offers cycling and hiking trails. A walk by the lake leads into Wildberger Forst forest. This gives you two different ways to experience the woodland landscape: walking and cycling. Wildlife is also part of the picture: Lake Kastorfer See is an otter habitat. The remaining bodies of water around the lake provide a refuge for rare birds. The presence of these animals can vary seasonally.
A bathing area with clear restrictions
In summer, Lake Kastorfer See is a place to swim and cool off. At the Wildberg bathing area, the stretch of shore is 180 metres long; the grounds include a playground, a fire pit and a bathing jetty. At the same time, important restrictions apply: the island in Lake Kastorfer See may not be entered for nature conservation reasons. Sailing and motorboating are not available at the bathing area. Before a specific visit, check local notices and the condition of the facilities.
Coffee and cake in Wildberg
In Wildberg, Ohm Bakery offers a place to stop for coffee and cake. While you enjoy your refreshments, you can watch the baker at work on a screen. This combines a break with an insight into the baking trade and gives your visit a specific local theme. If the bakery is to be a set part of your itinerary, check in advance whether a visit is possible on your chosen date.
Choose the focus of your stay
You can organise the options around your interests: the rampart remains and brick churches make for a cultural and historical focus; the lake, forest and trails offer nature and activity. In summer, swimming is an additional reason to visit, while the bakery provides a culinary break with coffee and cake. Consider which of these interests you want to shape your stay before looking for a holiday apartment.
