Grischow lies in the Treptower Werder and is surrounded by the Tollense River and the Großer and Kleiner Landgraben. These three waterways form the village’s geographical setting. During a stay, visitors can enjoy a special view of the Neo-Gothic village church, its listed brick portal, and other historic buildings. Grischow is known for its idyllic village scenery; at the same time, the portal, cemetery wall, bell and clock tower, and war memorial offer specific points of interest for a visit focused on history and architecture.

The Village Church and Portal in Focus

For 25 years, the Grischow Village Church Association has cared for the community’s Neo-Gothic village church. Its northern brick portal is listed, has two sections, and was built as early as the 16th century. The church therefore brings together two distinct historical periods: the church is Neo-Gothic, while the portal dates from the 16th century. The church is considered well worth a visit, and visitors are invited to linger. For architecture enthusiasts, this offers a clear focal point, with the opportunity to appreciate both the church’s design and the portal’s details.

Architecture and Remembrance

The brick cemetery wall is highlighted alongside the church and the bell and clock tower as a historic architectural feature. This means that the historic architecture includes not only the portal, but also the wall and tower. The war memorial in front of the Neo-Gothic funeral hall, outside the cemetery, is a separate place of remembrance. It bears the names of 18 people from Grischow who fell in the First World War. Its location and inscription give the memorial a clearly defined connection to the village’s history.

Events in 2026

An Easter bonfire and a village festival are planned in Grischow for 2026. If either event is a deciding factor in planning your stay, check the date in advance, as individual event dates may change.

More Nature Experiences in the Mecklenburg Lake District

Beyond the local highlights, the wider Mecklenburg Lake District destination offers a distinct focus on nature. Müritz National Park is characterized by forests, moors, lakes, and extensive meadows. Its hiking trail explores the park’s landscapes and special features over nine stages, passing lakes, traversing ancient forests, going by inland dunes, and reaching the source of the Havel. This sequence of stages offers a different focus from Grischow’s emphasis on architecture: here, the main attraction is a landscape route made up of several sections. Certified nature and landscape guides offer an educational perspective through guided tours, including tours of the Serrahn UNESCO World Heritage beech forest and excursions from the water.

The Damerower Werder bison reserve also offers a different nature-focused experience in the Mecklenburg Lake District. It lies on a peninsula in Lake Kölpin and in the Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath Nature Park. Visitors can observe bison there. The forest discovery trail features climbing opportunities, an ant house, an exhibition with touch-and-see panels, and a dendrophone. Thus, in addition to hiking trails and guided tours, the wider destination offers wildlife observation and a discovery trail as different options; these are regional attractions, not features of Grischow.
