The 19th-century brick church and the estate with its farm shop give Grapzow two distinct points of interest: a historic village setting and a place to shop for locally produced agricultural goods. The Tollense Valley adds a third focus within the municipality, with cycling and hiking trails as well as the Tollense Valley Circular Route. A simple question can help you choose accommodation: Would you mainly like to explore village history and the market, or also set aside time for longer excursions? Grapzow can be explored through a range of interests.

Village church with belfry and organ

The brick church that defines Grapzow’s village landscape dates from the 19th century. On its south side stands a detached, three-bay wooden belfry with two bells. One of them is dated to 1491. This date therefore refers to a bell; it is not the year the church was built. The organ has its own date: Barnim Grüneberg built it in 1870. The brick building, belfry and organ are distinct features of the village church, each of which can be dated without reducing its history to a single year.

Grapzow Estate: Farm Shop and Farmers’ Market

Grapzow Estate includes a farmers’ market. The farm shop sells products grown on the estate, such as wheat, barley, rye and potatoes; it also offers animal feed and seeds. Wheat and potatoes are among the estate’s own produce at the farmers’ market. The range also includes seeds, animal feed, gardening products, and decorative and gift items. Shopping here is therefore not limited to food. There is also a snack bar in the farm shop. If you plan to visit the market or snack bar, check the opening hours in advance.

Cycling and hiking trails in the Municipality of Grapzow

The municipality has well-maintained cycling and hiking trails with scenic views of the Tollense Valley. The Tollense Valley Circular Route passes through the Municipality of Grapzow, among other places, and is ideal for longer cycling and horse-riding tours. These are different ways to spend time in the municipality: the trails help you plan hiking and cycling outings, while the circular route is also described as a way to plan longer tours by bike or on horseback. If you would like to make time for outdoor activities alongside a visit to the village church, these trails and the circular route can complement your plans.

Grapzow and its geographical setting

The Municipality of Grapzow includes the localities of Grapzow and Kessin and lies on the Treptower Werder. This lowland area is located between the Tollense and the Great and Little Landgraben. The municipality has just under 370 inhabitants. It is important to keep this municipal scale in mind: the cycling and hiking trails described here, as well as the Tollense Valley Circular Route, relate to the Municipality of Grapzow. The village church and the estate, by contrast, are specific points of interest in the village of Grapzow. This allows you to think of visiting the village and exploring the municipality as different scales of travel planning.

The Mecklenburg Lake District as a wider travel area

Beyond Grapzow, the wider travel destination of the Mecklenburg Lake District offers its own nature-focused attractions. Müritz National Park is part of this region and is characterized by forests, bogs, lakes and expansive meadows. Its Müritz National Park Hiking Trail covers a variety of landscapes over nine stages: it runs along lakes, through ancient forests, past inland dunes and to the source of the Havel. Certified nature and landscape guides offer educational tours in the national park, including guided visits to the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest at Serrahn and tours from the water. These attractions belong to the wider regional area and should be distinguished from Grapzow’s own features.

When looking for a holiday apartment, it is worth first deciding on the scope of your plans: are you interested in Grapzow, with its village church and estate; trails in the municipality; or also nature destinations in the wider travel destination of the Mecklenburg Lake District? This will help you choose a location based on the themes you want to include in your stay.
