Staven offers two distinct starting points for planning a trip: historical landmarks in the village and sections of the Mecklenburg Lake District Pilgrimage Route. The listed manor house reflects a building history spanning from the late 18th century to the mid-19th century. The pilgrimage route includes the Friedland–Staven section and the Staven–Neubrandenburg section. Staven Church, the dovecote and the district of Rossow are also local points of interest.

Building history and landmarks of the village

The manor house in Staven is a listed building dating from the late 18th century. It was frequently remodeled up to the mid-19th century. Its chronology therefore encompasses both the original construction phase and repeated alterations over several decades.

The manor house in Staven was renovated by the von Badewitz and Göhrs families from 1992 to 1999. These years mark a later renovation phase in Staven’s building history. The church and the dovecote are surviving reminders of the village’s past. The present-day church stands in Staven’s district of Rossow and was built in 1914. The historical record thus spans building phases from the 18th and 19th centuries, a church building dated to the 20th century, and a renovation at the end of the 20th century.

Finding your way on foot and by bike

The Friedland–Staven section of the Mecklenburg Lake District Pilgrimage Route is approximately 12.2 km long. The Staven–Neubrandenburg section starts at Staven Church, which is also located on the Friedland–Staven section. This makes the church a landmark for both named route sections. Check the route details before setting out.

The route description for the Staven–Neubrandenburg section also mentions early landmarks: after about 1 km, the route joins the road to Warlin; after a further approximately 350 m, it follows the Mecklenburg Lake Cycle Route. Both distances are approximate. They help you follow the described route, but do not replace checking the route details before your trip.

A cycle route connection runs from Neverin through the district of Rossow towards Brunn and as far as the motorway. If you plan to use this connection, check the condition of the cycle path before setting off. Staven therefore offers different route options: the named pilgrimage route sections and the cycle route connection through Rossow.

Nature and landscapes in the Mecklenburg Lake District

Müritz National Park is part of the Mecklenburg Lake District and is characterized by forests, moors, lakes and expansive meadows. The Müritz National Park Hiking Trail showcases the park’s landscape types and distinctive features over nine stages. Its route runs along lakes, through ancient woodlands, past inland dunes and to the source of the River Havel. This gives the wider destination a distinctive landscape focus alongside Staven’s historical landmarks.

Certified nature and landscape guides offer informative tours through MĂĽritz National Park. These include guided tours in the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest of Serrahn and tours from the water. These experiences offer different perspectives: the beech forest and the tours from the water explore different themes within the national park.

Another nature attraction in the Mecklenburg Lake District is the Damerower Werder bison reserve. It lies on a peninsula in Lake Kölpin, in the Mecklenburg Lake District and within Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath Nature Park. Visitors can observe the animals there. The reserve also has a forest discovery trail with climbing opportunities, an anthill house, an exhibition with touch-and-look panels, and a dendrophone. This regional attraction combines wildlife watching with the trail’s listed features.
