A church fire in 1879 and a fire at the manor house in 1880 mark two separate chapters in Beseritz’s architectural history. After the church fire, the organ was rebuilt along with the interior furnishings. A year later, Count Christian von Bernstorff had the manor house rebuilt to plans by Georg Daniel. The consecutive years make the dates of the two reconstruction stories easy to distinguish.

Organ History and Architecture

Julius Schwarz of Rostock built the organ and was the first in Mecklenburg to build pneumatically controlled organs. The history of the instrument thus links its reconstruction after the church fire with a specific chapter in Mecklenburg organ building. The village church therefore highlights both the history of its furnishings and the development of a particular organ-building method.

Beseritz Manor House has a central avant-corps with a coat of arms on its tall gable, as well as a tower with a brick-covered pointed roof. A central avant-corps is the projecting central part of a façade. Together with the manor house’s reconstruction to plans by Georg Daniel, these features represent two different aspects of the building’s history: its origins and its architectural design.

Estate Park and Cultural Uses

The park behind Beseritz Manor House was laid out around 1880. The estate park features mature trees and a watercourse bordered with fieldstones that encloses the former castle grounds. The date places the park in the same period as the manor house’s reconstruction following the 1880 fire; however, the two dates describe different events.

Various cultural events take place throughout the year in the setting of the former manor house and the park behind it. If you would like to plan your trip around a specific event, check the event dates in advance.

The manor house is used as a restaurant and for other cultural purposes. Check current visiting options before planning a restaurant visit. The festively decorated rooms of the estate house are used throughout the year for weddings, birthdays and other family celebrations. These private events complement the restaurant and cultural uses of the building.

Another activity in Beseritz is aimed at children: the Camillo StĂĽbe family offers horse riding. If you would like to include this activity in your plans, check the current dates before your trip.

Nature in the wider Mecklenburg Lake District destination

The Müritz National Park is a distinct nature destination within the wider Mecklenburg Lake District. It is characterised by forests, bogs, lakes and wide meadows. The Müritz National Park Hiking Trail explores the park’s landscapes and special features over nine stages: it runs along lakes, through ancient forests, past inland dunes and to the source of the Havel. Certified nature and landscape guides offer informative tours through the national park, including guided visits to the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest at Serrahn and tours from the water. Alongside Beseritz’s manor house, village church and estate park, the wider destination also offers its own nature and hiking experiences.
