Carpin brings together several different themes for a stay: the beech forests near Serrahn are part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, while the chapel and old forge offer insights into the village’s history. There are also routes for walking, cycling and a suggested pilgrimage route. When planning, you can therefore focus on nature, culture or outdoor activities.

Serrahn Beech Forests and Nature Trails

More than 260 bird species are known to inhabit the old beech forests of Serrahn. The Serrahn Forest Discovery Trail is 6.5 km long and passes through the UNESCO World Heritage area. Trail conditions may change; check them before setting out. If you would like to learn more about the development and character of the beech forests, the “The Long Road to the Primeval Forest” nature trail offers insights. Guided hikes are available on the Forest Discovery Trail from Zinow to Serrahn.

Chapel, Bell and Old Forge

The chapel in Carpin was built in 1953 as a simple, square wooden structure with a gabled roof. A bell dating from 1717 hangs nearby in an open bell tower. In Bergfeld, the old forge was opened to the public as a local history room in 1985; it is also used as an information point for Müritz National Park. Check the information point’s current operating details before visiting.

Cycling, Pilgrimage and Hiking Routes

The “Green Cyclist” circular route is 24 km long and passes through Zinow, Serrahn, Grünow and Carpin. Signposting and surface conditions may change, so it is advisable to check them before setting out. The Carpin Pilgrimage Route is a suggested route from Burg Stargard to Carpin, covering around 27 km. This gives you a 24 km cycling loop and a suggested pilgrimage route of approximately 27 km: two different ways to explore the area along a route.

Getting Around Locally

Bus route 619 serves the Dianenhof World Heritage stop near Carpin and the Carpin stop. For your specific outward and return journeys, it is best to check the timetable in advance. Near the field boundary between Carpin and Bergfeld lies a granite boulder measuring about 11 cubic metres. A clearly visible purported handprint with five small depressions can be seen on it. The stone remains in its original location and can be viewed by anyone; check access conditions on site.

The Mecklenburg Lake District as a Wider Travel Destination

If you are planning a stay in the wider Mecklenburg Lake District destination, you can also include Müritz National Park. It is part of the Mecklenburg Lake District and is characterized by forests, bogs, lakes and expansive meadows. The Müritz National Park Hiking Trail follows the shores of lakes over nine stages, through ancient forests, past inland dunes and to the source of the Havel. Certified nature and landscape guides offer informative tours through the national park, including guided tours in Serrahn’s UNESCO World Heritage beech forest and tours from the water.
