Priepert is situated on a peninsula between Lake Ellbogensee and Great Lake Priepertsee. Of the municipality’s total area of 2,258 hectares, 585 hectares are covered by water. Water shapes the village, while forests, hiking trails and historic sites add to its character. If you are looking for accommodation in Priepert, you can plan your stay around your interests: time on the water, exploring on foot or discovering local history.
Forest Trails and Historic Sites
As you hike through the forests around Priepert, you will pass a rock garden featuring erratic boulders from different ice ages. The rock garden combines a walk through the forest with a look at these glacial finds. The Ofenweg trail also starts in Priepert, but focuses on how the area was used in the past: information panels lead to a former tar kiln and a former lime kiln.
From April to October, you can reach the Ofenweg trail by taking the Kleinseenbus to the Priepert stop. Check the timetable for your travel dates and the current trail conditions before setting out. Parking is available at the start and end points of the Ofenweg trail. The two routes offer different perspectives for hikers: the rock garden showcases erratic boulders from different ice ages, while the panels along the Ofenweg trail recall the former kiln sites.
Boating and Accommodation by the Water
The Priepert canoe station rents out kayaks, canoes and motorboats that do not require a licence. Check availability before your trip; for motorboats, also confirm the licence requirements. This lets you choose between paddle boats and motorboats when planning and check in advance whether the type of boat you want is available.
There is also a waterway rest area for people travelling by water. It offers low-cost overnight stays in your own tent. This option is for waterway travellers with their own tent; confirm availability before your trip.
Activities at the Seebad
Children can enjoy a range of play equipment at the Seebad in Priepert. There is also a beach volleyball court and a chessboard with oversized pieces. Along with boat rentals and hiking trails, the Seebad offers these specific activities for your leisure time.
Church and Local History Room
The half-timbered church in Priepert was built in 1719. Inside are a Baroque altar, a Baroque pulpit and a suspended baptismal angel. The church is also on a pilgrimage route. Duke Adolf Friedrich III of Mecklenburg-Strelitz used it until his palace in Glienicke was completed. Its construction date, furnishings, location on the pilgrimage route and historic use offer different insights into the church’s history.
The Priepert local history room is housed in the former village school and displays historical exhibits. These include everyday objects, books and clothing from earlier times. Outside, you can see old farming equipment from the last century. While the church draws attention to sacred architecture through its half-timbered construction and Baroque furnishings, the local history room focuses on everyday objects and agriculture. Priepert thus offers two different ways to explore local history.
