Woezer Lake lies within the municipality of Wittendörp. In Döbbersen and Dreilützow, you can also find a Romanesque brick church, a chapel with Stations of the Cross, and works of art in buildings belonging to the estate of Schloss Dreilützow. Wittendörp therefore brings together a range of themes: landscape, sacred architecture, contemplation and cultural works.

Landscape and orientation in Wittendörp

Woezer Lake is a named landscape feature within the municipal area. Wittendörp borders the district of Nordwestmecklenburg to the north. These details answer different questions about location: the lake lies within Wittendörp, while the district boundary situates the municipality to the north. Those interested in the landscape have a clear point of reference in the lake; the northern boundary, by contrast, describes the municipality’s location in the broader geographical context.

Church, chapel and cultural works

St. Vitus Church in Döbbersen is a Romanesque brick building in a transitional Gothic style. It consists of a choir, nave and tower. The bright nave has a barrel vault; features of the interior include a Runge organ in the gallery, old chalk paintings, a baptismal angel and a Baroque altar. The building’s design and fittings create distinct architectural highlights: alongside the structure’s divisions, the vault, organ and other features stand out in their own right.

The small Marienkapelle in Dreilützow was established in the 1960s and is used for reflection and prayer. In the chapel park, a gently curving path passes 14 Stations of the Cross on its way to a former tea pavilion. The chapel and path represent different aspects of the same place: the chapel is dedicated to prayer and reflection, while the Stations of the Cross form a sequence leading to a former pavilion. The tea pavilion is explicitly a former destination.

The buildings belonging to the estate of Schloss Dreilützow offer another cultural dimension. They feature, among other things, historic paintings, moving images and installations. These works complement the sacred sites with a different focus: in Döbbersen and Dreilützow, architectural and religious themes can be distinguished from artistic works, without reducing them to a single attraction.

Ludwigslust-Parchim as the wider setting

In the broader destination of Ludwigslust-Parchim, Schloss Ludwigslust offers a different perspective on courtly history. It was the former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg and, together with its park and the town, forms an ensemble known as the “Little Versailles of the North.” The palace is also the centrepiece of an almost completely preserved late Baroque townscape, with a former court church and an English-style landscape park. Here, the focus is on the interplay of palace, townscape and park; in Wittendörp, by contrast, the themes described are shaped by individual churches, chapels and the estate.

The museum in Dömitz Fortress also offers a different historical focus within the broader destination of Ludwigslust-Parchim. It covers the history of the fortress and town, as well as the history of the Elbe, the harbour and bridges, and Fritz Reuter. For nature enthusiasts, the calcareous fen near Zarrentin is part of the regional picture: it is part of the Schaalelauf nature reserve and can be explored from the nature trail. These themes complement Wittendörp’s local features but are independent examples from Ludwigslust-Parchim.
