Wangelin Garden: Display Garden, Guided Tours and Herbs

Wangelin Garden is located in Wangelin, a district of Ganzlin. Guided tours of the display garden are available by request during the summer season and can be booked. A special guided tour showcases buildings made of clay and straw and explains their sustainable construction. If you are interested in sustainable building, you can make this a focus of your garden visit.

The garden has a garden café serving coffee and homemade cake. If you plan to visit the café, check in advance whether it will be open on the date of your visit. Wangelin is also home to an herb garden, considered the largest in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and a visitor attraction offering recreational value.

Cycle Route 9 and Paths Through the Landscape

The approximately 36 km-long Cycle Route 9 runs from Ganzlin through Retzow, QuaĂźlin, Wahlstorf, DarĂź, Karbow, VietlĂĽbbe, Wangelin and Gnevsdorf, before returning to Ganzlin. It runs almost parallel to the MarienflieĂź Nature Reserve. The route repeatedly offers beautiful views of the Gehlsbachtal Nature Reserve, which is considered a feeding ground for grey herons and black storks.

To explore the surroundings in a different way, you can follow country lanes around Buchberg and through Retzower Heide and MarienflieĂź on foot or by bicycle. This offers an alternative to a circular ride with named stops: routes through a variety of landscapes. Both options can be included in your plans for Ganzlin.

More to Explore in the Wider Ludwigslust-Parchim Destination

In the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination, Ludwigslust Palace is a cultural and historical attraction in its own right. It was the former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg and, together with its park and town, forms an ensemble known as the “Little Versailles of the North.” The palace is the centrepiece of an almost completely preserved late Baroque town layout, with a former court church and an English-style landscape park. The palace showcases art and courtly domestic culture from the 18th and early 19th centuries.

Another cultural attraction in the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination is Dömitz. The museum in the fortress covers the history of the fortress and town, as well as the history of the Elbe, the harbour and bridges, Fritz Reuter, and special and art exhibitions; the programme may change. Dömitz Citadel is a Renaissance fortress built on the Italian model, in the shape of a pentagon with bastions, casemates and a drawbridge.
