There are several ways to plan a trip to Lewitzrand: explore historic engineering in Garwitz, village churches and local history, or trails through the Lewitz. The villages’ sights include Raduhner See and Klinker See, the Alte Forsthof in Rusch with its fallow deer enclosure, and the village churches in Raduhn, Klinken, Garwitz and Matzlow. You can plan excursions around hiking and cycling tours as well as individual destinations. When preparing your stay, you can first decide whether to focus on culture, scenery or outdoor activities, then choose specific places to visit.

Garwitz Lock and other sights

Garwitz’s sights include the lock complex, the old lock gate, the Eldebad swimming pool and the village church. The upper gate of the old lock was built in 1894; its wooden gate was replaced in 1989. During the lock’s major reconstruction in 2000/2001, the wooden gate was dismantled and installed upstream of the lock. It has been preserved there as a technical monument and is open to visitors.

Hiking and cycling in the Lewitz

A cycle path connects all the villages in the municipality of Lewitzrand with their excursion destinations. Extensive hikes and cycling tours into the Lewitz protected landscape area start in the villages. Recommended destinations include the Eldewanderweg Garwitz-Damm, the Klinken cultural trail and the Garwitz cultural trail. Other recommended places to visit are the Pingelhof in Alt Damerow, the observation tower at the DĂĽtchower HochbrĂĽcke, the carp ponds in the Lewitz, and Friedrichsmoor Hunting Lodge and forest. The options range from named trails to individual destinations with a cultural, scenic or viewpoint focus.

The circular hiking trail, also known as the forest trail, to the Pingelhof Museum starts and ends at the waterway rest area in Garwitz. The circular route Garwitz – Müritz-Elde Waterway – Malchow – Pingelhof – Garwitz is about 10 km long. The start and end points, along with the approximate distance, give you practical details for planning your own tour.

Churches, local history and crafts

Klinken Church features a medieval rib vault and restored wall paintings. The historic forester’s lodge in the district of Rusch houses a local history room. The two places offer different cultural highlights: Klinken for the church’s features, Rusch for local history. In Rusch, near Raduhn, visitors can browse three pottery workshops. As individual businesses may change, it is advisable to check what is currently open before visiting.

Lakes, nature reserve and swimming pool

The Klinker Plage nature reserve is home to rare and, in some cases, endangered animal and plant species. The municipality’s other sights include Raduhner See and Klinker See. Visitors can therefore choose between protected natural areas and lakes, lock engineering, churches and local history.

In addition to a large sunbathing lawn, Eldebad Garwitz has a baby pool, a non-swimmers’ pool and a swimming pool with four 50-metre lanes. The pool is open seasonally; check whether it will be open on your travel dates. The annual Neptune Festival is a tradition at Eldebad. Check the dates and programme in advance as well.
