Bobzin brings together a variety of local features: hall houses and a cottage stand alongside a dry-stone wall, a granary, a railway station and a war memorial. The specific addresses make the different architectural forms easy to identify. Dorfstraße and Neue Straße in particular offer several individual examples of Bobzin’s village history.

Local Features in Bobzin

There is a hall house at Dorfstraße 3/3a. Another hall house stands at Neue Straße 37, and a cottage is located at Neue Straße 38. The two hall houses belong to the same building type but are at different addresses. This makes it possible to distinguish their distribution in the village from the cottage’s different architectural form.

A dry-stone wall and a granary are located at Dorfstraße 35. They share the same address but are distinct local features. A railway station stands at Bahnhof 32. A war memorial commemorates the years 1914/1918. The local scene thus includes not only buildings but also a wall and a place of remembrance.

Bus Routes and Timetables

Two VLP bus routes are relevant for planning your journey. Route 544 runs from Hagenow via Scharbow and Bobzin to Gammelin and back. Route 558 runs from Hagenow via Gammelin and Zachun to Bobzin and back. The order of the towns distinguishes the routes: on route 544, Gammelin comes after Bobzin; on route 558, it comes before. Scharbow and Zachun are other named stops along the way. Check the timetable before travelling, as timetables can change.

In the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination

In the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination, Ludwigslust Palace offers a different perspective on history and architecture. The palace was the former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg and forms an ensemble with the park and town, known as the “Little Versailles of the North.” At the same time, it is the centrepiece of an almost completely preserved late Baroque town complex, with a former court church and an English-style landscape park. The palace presents art and courtly domestic culture from the 18th and early 19th centuries.

In Dömitz, fortress architecture and town history are the main themes. Dömitz Citadel is a Renaissance fortress built in the form of a pentagon on the Italian model, with bastions, casemates and a drawbridge. The museum in the fortress covers the history of the fortress and town, the Elbe, the harbour and bridges, and Fritz Reuter. Special and art exhibitions are also held; special exhibitions may change. The architecture and museum therefore offer different perspectives: the form of the fortress on the one hand, and the history of the town and its surroundings on the other.

At Zarrentin Monastery, guided tours cover the history of the former Cistercian nunnery, the lives of the nuns and the building’s architecture. There is also a permanent exhibition about the monastery on the ground floor. Dates and access may change, so check visiting arrangements in advance.

The wider Ludwigslust-Parchim destination also features landscapes. The calcareous fen near Zarrentin is part of the Schaalelauf Nature Reserve; visitors can explore the fen from the nature trail. The Lewitz offers a landscape to explore, with a rich variety of flora and fauna. The Sternberg Lake District Nature Park and the Schaalsee UNESCO Biosphere Reserve are also among the protected areas and landscapes in Ludwigslust-Parchim district.
