In Neu Poserin, different landscapes come together: lakes, dunes, sandy grassland and heathland are part of the municipality’s landscape, as is the lowland moor complex of Großer Serrahn. If you are planning a stay, you can start by asking whether the landscape or a cultural highlight should be your main focus. Both are part of this destination, without requiring a single fixed route.
Schwinzer Heath and Serrahn
Schwinzer Heath extends across the municipalities of Dobbertin and Neu Poserin and the town of Goldberg. At around 10,000 hectares, it is the largest contiguous forest in the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim. This scale gives the landscape a regional context; at the same time, Neu Poserin can be explored in more detail through its individual natural areas.
Großer Serrahn is a moor in the municipality of Neu Poserin, in Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide Nature Park. Together with Kleiner Serrahn, it forms the largest nature reserve in the Goldberg-Mildenitz administrative district, covering 722 hectares. The moorland character of Großer Serrahn and the nature reserve’s combined area offer two different perspectives on the same landscape.
The nature reserves of Langhagensee and Dünenkiefernwald are also located in the northern part of the municipality. Together with the lakes, dunes and heathland, these names illustrate the variety of landscapes within the municipality. They offer a guide for anyone who wants to learn about Neu Poserin’s different natural features before travelling.
Hiking and viewpoints
Signposted hiking trails in the municipality lead to various viewpoints and observation stands. Hiking and observing the landscape are therefore established ways to enjoy the outdoors, although not every trail needs to have the same kind of destination. If you are planning a hike, it is worth checking the route and current conditions for the trail in advance.
Sandhof has its own viewpoint: from the “Rothirsch” tower, you can enjoy views of the Serrahn landscape. This distinguishes the tower, a named viewpoint, from the various destinations along the signposted hiking trails. Parks in Neu Poserin are also among the municipality’s recreational amenities, adding another option.
Manor house and regional culture
The manor house in the municipality of Neu Poserin dates from the 19th century. It adds an architectural highlight alongside moor, heathland and forest, offering a different way to experience the area from its natural landscapes. When choosing Neu Poserin, you can consider the natural features and the manor house as a historic highlight together.
In the wider Ludwigslust-Parchim travel region, Ludwigslust Palace provides a distinct cultural and historical highlight. The palace was the former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg and, together with its park and town, forms an ensemble known as the “Little Versailles of the North.” It is also the centrepiece of an almost completely preserved late Baroque townscape, with a former court church and an English-style landscape park. This regional addition should be distinguished from the sights and landscapes of Neu Poserin.
For your travel plans, there are two different areas of focus: the landscape, with its moors, forest and signposted hiking trails, or a combination of natural features and historic architecture. The viewpoints and observation stands add to the ways of enjoying the landscape, while the manor house and the regional connection to Ludwigslust Palace provide a cultural context.
