After acquiring the manor in 1769, Albrecht Emond von Münchhausen laid out an English landscape park of around ten hectares in Kissenbrück. The creation of the grounds gives the park’s history a specific place in the village’s history.
Park Grounds and Manor
The central structural feature of the historic park was a four-row lime-tree avenue. A medieval atonement cross stands on Schneckenberg, replacing the former rose temple feature. The avenue and monument represent different aspects of the park: its design and a historic detail in the landscape.
Admission to the park at Rittergut Kissenbrück/Hedwigsburg is free. The manor’s courtyard and buildings are not open to visitors. Check the access information again before your trip.
Circular Walk, Oker and Ösel
The Rittergut Kissenbrück circular walk is 3.97 kilometres long and classified as an easy circular route. It passes the sculpture “Pious Johanna with the Lion” and Schneckenberg. A field path leads towards the Oker; towards the end, the route approaches Rittergut Hedwigsburg. Local conditions on the route may change, so it is advisable to check the trail conditions before setting out.
The Ösel forms the northern boundary of the municipality, while the Oker forms its western boundary. From the highest point on the Ösel, there are panoramic views across the surrounding region. There is one restriction on the route described between Neindorf and Kissenbrück: the path up the Ösel can be used there only on foot or by bicycle. Check the trail conditions and access regulations in advance.
St. Stephanus and the Early History of the Village
St. Stephanus is considered one of the oldest churches in southeastern Lower Saxony. The present church building was consecrated on 7 June 1959. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Greek cross, and the bell tower stands separately from the church building.
The first documentary mention of Kissenbrück is dated to the period from 822 to 826. The corresponding document is kept in the archives of Corvey Abbey.
Golf and Mill Products
The Rittergut Hedwigsburg Golf Club has a 60-hectare course with 18 holes and a par of 73. This adds a distinct sporting focus alongside the park and village history.
Hedwigsburger Okermühle offers flour in standard grades, specialty products and wheat flour for non-food use. It processes tens of thousands of tonnes of wheat each year and works with selected regional growers. With the slogan “Expertise since 1318,” the mill promotes its own tradition.
When looking for a holiday apartment, you can choose the focus of your trip in advance: park and village history, a circular walk, Ösel panoramas or golf each offer a different experience.
