Blomberg offers three specific starting points for planning your trip: local history at the Blomberg/Neuschoo Church, practical orientation at the central village square, and the Schützenfest held annually at the end of July. Depending on whether you want to focus on the village’s history, everyday village life or an event date, your stay can take on a different focus.

Village History and SchĂĽtzenfest

The Blomberg/Neuschoo Church stands within the municipality of Blomberg and was consecrated on June 19, 1870. Until 1870, the residents of Blomberg and Neuschoo belonged to the Ochtersum parish. The local history therefore connects a precisely dated consecration with the two villages’ former parish affiliation.

Blomberg celebrates its SchĂĽtzenfest annually at the end of July. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the specific dates in advance. This lets you factor the event into your plans without assuming a particular program.

Village Square and Getting Your Bearings

Blomberg Village Square is centrally located in the village and also serves as a motorhome parking area. If you plan to use it, check the parking information before setting off.

A restaurant, banks, shops including bakeries, a pharmacy and a doctor are all within walking distance of the village square. This provides a practical reference point for planning your time in the village, alongside trips around the region. Local services may change; if you need a particular one, check in advance that it will suit your stay.

Routes in Blomberg and Holtriem

The Esens-to-Aurich leg of the Frisian Mill Tour passes through Blomberg and combines cultural and historical discoveries with nature in the Harlinger Land. If you plan to take this leg, check the route information before setting off.

The approximately 48 km Holtriem Hiking Trail passes through scenic parts of Holtriem. This circular route runs away from the main roads. It is well signposted; shelters and information boards are being added gradually. You can leave the route in any village, so you do not have to plan to complete the entire loop as your only option. Two distinct features are key when choosing: the Esens–Aurich leg passes through Blomberg, while the hiking trail is described as a longer loop through Holtriem.

CultureCall provides cultural information by phone at eleven historic sites in the Holtriem Joint Municipality. The audio segments about the respective attractions or stops last approximately three minutes. This short format complements the longer routes with a compact way to explore cultural topics in the joint municipality.

Wittmund: Culture and Landscape in the Wider Destination

The wider destination of Wittmund offers its own cultural and landscape highlights. The PeldemĂĽhle was built in 1741, with a residence and barn, for peeling barley. It is the oldest single-storey gallery smock mill in northwestern Germany.

The Wittmund Forest offers a different focus. It covers more than 700 hectares and has several hiking trails and paths for woodland walks and cycling. The forest is also home to a circular raised bog known as a glacial Pingo ruin, with a viewing platform and bench. The wider destination of Wittmund thus offers a choice of both historic architecture and landscape attractions.
