Several cycling routes give a stay in Süllwarden a clear focus. They differ in length and character: one is a moderately difficult loop, while another passes through Süllwarden and offers a detour to salt marshes. There are also routes connected with Seeverns, as well as regional destinations that can be enjoyed as experiences in their own right.
Two Cycling Loops, Different Highlights
Tour 06 from Burhave to Süllwarden is a 20.05 km loop of moderate difficulty. It offers panoramic views and is suitable for cycling and e-bikes, families and children. This gives you a specific combination of distance and difficulty to consider when planning a day out, and it is also listed as suitable for a family outing.
Tour 08 from Tossens to Ruhwarden is also a loop and covers 26.88 km. It passes through Süllwarden and is therefore the longer of the two routes described, by 6.83 km. A recommended detour to the salt marshes adds a different highlight, where you can observe various bird species. When comparing the routes, you can therefore take into account both the distance and your interest in birdwatching.
Routes Connected with Seeverns
The Milch-Ku(h)l-Tour Butjadingen passes through Syuggewarden and Süllwarden in the direction of Seeverns. Near Süllwarden, you can also plan a visit to “Hof Seeverns,” run by the Harbers-Bahr family, as part of this tour. Advance registration is required, so the farm visit should be planned beforehand.
Tour 08 also refers to Seeverns near Süllwarden. There, you can enjoy homemade cake and various dairy products at one of the traditional Melkhüs. This adds a culinary option to the cycling routes, without making the visit equivalent to a visit to Hof Seeverns.
More Regional Experiences
Fedderwardersiel is in the wider area around Süllwarden. Visitors can buy fresh brown shrimp straight from a shrimp boat and enjoy the atmosphere of the small harbour. This is a different kind of outing from the cycling loop with its salt-marsh detour or a visit to Hof Seeverns: here, the harbour and shrimp fishing take centre stage.
For a mudflat experience, look to the wider region: at Tossens and Eckwarderhörne, you can explore mudflat habitats ranging from sandy flats to muddy flats with “Der Wattschnack” and wade through tidal creeks. This activity is explicitly a regional addition outside the immediate area of Süllwarden. It offers another option for travellers who would like to explore the mudflats as well as go cycling.
The options described offer different pointers for planning your day: Tour 06 is a moderately difficult loop with panoramic views, while Tour 08 covers more kilometres and offers a possible detour for birdwatching. Seeverns adds Melkhüs and a farm visit by prior arrangement to the choice of routes; Fedderwardersiel offers a separate highlight at the small harbour. You can organise your outings around the focus you want, rather than treating them as a single tour.
