Trails through fields, forests and meadows, and the village’s history give Neddenaverbergen two distinct focal points. In the southeast of Verden district, a landscape of geest, marshland, moor and forest is interwoven with specific places of remembrance, such as “Scheepers Vadder,” the historic bakehouse and a bell tower. You can plan your stay around whether you mainly want to spend time outdoors or learn more about local history. The two themes also take different forms: the trails invite you to walk and unwind, while the history becomes tangible through a figure, a village building and other places.

Trails and Landscape

Neddenaverbergen is located in the North German Plain, amid a varied landscape of geest, marshland, moor and forest. Extensive trails through fields, forests and meadows invite you to walk and unwind. Both the landscape itself and exploring it are defining features of the village. Those looking for outdoor activity will find a different focus here than visitors more interested in the historic and cultural sites. You can take both interests into account when choosing your destination; no specific itinerary is required.

There are also nature spots at the regional level: the municipality of Kirchlinteln has quiet stream valleys and small areas of moorland and heath that invite you to walk and unwind. This description applies to the municipality as a whole and complements the view of Neddenaverbergen’s trails and landscape with an explicitly regional perspective.

Places of Remembrance and the Bakehouse

The bronze figure “Scheepers Vadder” stands at the spot where the local smallholder Heinrich Worthmann once used to sit. This specific place connects the figure to a local person and a particular spot. It offers a different way into the village’s history than a historic building: here, the remembered spot is directly part of the figure’s story. Next to the sculpture is a small rest area, a popular stopping point for cycle tourists and other visitors to the village. The figure and rest area thus provide a point of reference for both cycle tourists and other visitors.

The historic bakehouse of the local heritage association is part of Neddener village square. It represents communal baking, which is also brought to life through a specific activity for children: as part of the children’s holiday programme organised by the municipality of Kirchlinteln, the local heritage association shows children how bread and cakes used to be baked together. The children knead loaves of bread and top butter cake; afterwards, they bake both in the oven with the master bakers. The programme thus combines hands-on participation with the history of baking. Its connection to the bakehouse and village square makes this part of the village distinct from the personal remembrance associated with “Scheepers Vadder.”

Monument, Bell Tower and Chapel

The historic and cultural picture also includes a burial mound field in Kötner Moor, within the cadastral area of Neddenaverbergen. It is listed in the register of monuments as a group of structures under Section 3(3), sentence 1 of the Lower Saxony Monument Protection Act (NDSchG). This formal monument status adds another dimension to the village’s history: alongside personal memories and the historic bakehouse, listed structures are also part of the village’s past.

A building in Neddenaverbergen was converted into a bell tower by a citizens’ initiative. A bell and a church clock were installed during the conversion. Neddenaverbergen Chapel, at the address Trahe, is a local point of reference for attending services. It is one of the village chapels where the Wittlohe parish holds services on Sundays throughout the year. Individual service dates are published separately; if you would like to attend a service during your visit, check the relevant Sunday in advance.
