Low Geest hills, quiet stream valleys, and small areas of heathland and moorland shape the landscape visitors experience in Kirchlinteln. Cyclists can choose between two loop routes with different scenery; there is also an approximately 2.75-kilometre adventure trail and places that focus on moorland, nature, and cultural history. This makes it easy to plan your trip around your interests: a longer cycle tour, a short themed trail, or a visit that brings landscape and history together.

Cycling Routes with Different Scenery

The Aller-Heide Cycle Route is an approximately 56-kilometre loop through gently rolling woodland, moorland, and heathland around Kirchlinteln. The Aller Cycle Route is approximately 55 kilometres long, flat, and cyclist-friendly, running between Verden and Rethem. The landscape changes from marshland to Geest uplands. Although the routes are similar in length, they differ mainly in their terrain and changing scenery: one centres on woodland, moorland, and heathland along a gently rolling loop, while the other is a flat route between the two towns.

On weekends and public holidays, you can shorten your ride on the Aller Cycle Route by crossing the Aller between Otersen and Westen on the Marie Hoffmann solar ferry. The ferry operates seasonally; check before setting out. You can also combine the route with a ride on the Kleinbahn Express heritage railway, which runs from Verden through Kirchlinteln to Stemmen. Check the timetable in advance as well. The AllerCafé in Otersen is a place to stop for a break along the Aller Cycle Route. Opening hours may vary by season.

Trails, Play and Moorland

The Armsen Adventure Trail offers a different focus from the longer cycling routes: along its approximately 2.75 kilometres, information boards explain features of the local natural environment and settlement geography. The trail provides a specific thematic introduction to the landscape and settlement. On the outskirts of Kirchlinteln, the forest playground has a zip line, water pump, water channel, slide, swings, and a football goal. The Moorkieker in KĂĽkenmoor is a regional place for play and culture. It explores the regional importance of the moor, as well as animals, plants, nature, and history.

Heathland and Historic Traces

South of Kirchlinteln lies Hügelgräber-Heide, an approximately ten-hectare nature reserve with dry sandy heathland on the westernmost edge of the Lüneburg Heath. The area is home to 18 preserved Bronze Age burial mounds, dating to around 2,500 to 1,400 BC. Hollow ways preserve traces of former trade routes. Two different kinds of evidence meet in this landscape: the distinctive heathland and signs of earlier use and routes.

In Kirchlinteln itself, architectural history and cultural life also come together: the Lintler Krug is a historic half-timbered house and a regular venue for events. If you would like to combine your visit with an event, check the dates before your trip.

Places for Regional Products

Local options include the Dorfladen Otersen w.V. direct sales outlet and Nordappel Mosterei & Streuobst farm shop. As the range of products available at local shops may change, check what is currently on offer before visiting.
