Bothel lies between the small rivers Rodau, Wiedau and Vissel. The heated outdoor pool, Stream Route and farm café beneath the oak trees in the old village centre offer different local points of interest for planning a trip. If the outdoor pool is the deciding factor for your travel dates, be sure to take its renovation period into account.

Outdoor pool: swimming facilities and renovation period

Bothel’s outdoor pool has a swimming pool with starting blocks, a non-swimmer pool with a small water slide, and a baby pool. The grounds also include a sandbox and a beach volleyball court. The pool will be closed for renovation work in 2026; it is scheduled to reopen as usual from May 2027. Plan your visit around the scheduled date and check the latest operating status in advance.

Stream Route and village character

The Stream Route in Bothel features a windmill and a noteworthy church among its sights. Bothel lies between the Rodau, Wiedau and Vissel rivers. The three small rivers frame the village’s landscape, while the mill and church add local natural and cultural points of interest.

Farm café at Meyershof

The Hofcafé unter den Eichen is located at Meyershof in Bothel’s old village centre. Its offerings include Italian ice cream, homemade cakes and gateaux, as well as hot and chilled drinks; the selection may change. The courtyard has plenty of bicycle parking, and e-bikes can be charged free of charge at a charging station by the café. Next to the courtyard is a play area for children, which you can take into account when planning a visit with children. Meyershof has been undergoing extensive renovation since 2021. As the offerings, facilities and renovation status may change, check the latest information before your visit.

Hiking, cycling and nature in the wider Rotenburg destination

The wider Rotenburg destination offers further regional nature experiences. The 24 NORDPFADE trails in Rotenburg (Wümme) district are circular hiking routes ranging from 5 to 32 kilometres in length. The NORDPFAD Ostetal runs through a river landscape of dense riverside forests, wet meadows, reed beds and steep slopes. For a different type of route, the Wümme Cycle Route is divided into a northern section of about 125 kilometres and a southern section of about 135 kilometres. Connecting routes divide it into attractive individual stretches, which are also suitable for day trips and families. This range makes it possible to compare circular hiking routes and cycle routes, so you can choose the right regional focus for your trip.

Together with Ekelmoor, Tister Bauernmoor forms a 1,220-hectare nature reserve complex in Rotenburg (Wümme) district. The Burgsittensen moor railway travels through Tister Bauernmoor at 6 km/h, crossing a typical raised bog landscape of pools, grasses, heather plants and birch trees. Sandbostel is a starting point for paddling tours on the Oste. The Oste is navigable only when water levels are sufficient; check this condition before setting out. The Sandbostel Camp Memorial also offers educational programmes for young people focused on commemorating, remembering and learning at the historic site.
