Pattensen can be explored in different ways: the circular routes listed vary in length and starting point, from 8 to 32 km. A free app adds a self-guided city tour with 16 stops focusing on Pattensen’s history. This lets you choose between getting active on the routes and exploring the city’s history during your stay.

Circular routes by length and starting point

The Pattenser Rundweg starts and ends at the former town hall. At 8 km, the route is flat and runs entirely on paved paths. It is suitable for hiking and cycling, as well as for strollers and wheelchairs. If this suitability matters for your plans, the route description offers a specific point of reference. Check local path conditions before setting out.

Two other circular routes start and end at the Pattensen indoor swimming pool. The Calenberger Ackerweg is 10 km long, flat and paved; it is suitable for hiking and cycling. The Oerier Wald-und-Flur-Weg is 12 km long and is also suitable for these two activities. The two routes are therefore similar in length and share the same starting and ending point. Check the current route markings in advance for both.

At 32 km, the Ring der Städtepartnerschaft is the longest of the listed routes. It also starts and ends at the former town hall and runs entirely on paved paths. As a circular cycling route, it is specifically intended for cycling. Compared with the 8 km Pattenser Rundweg, it is a considerably longer option; both routes run entirely on paved paths. Check the current route markings before setting out on the Ring.

Two other routes offer different starting and ending points: The 13 km Koldinger-Seen-Weg starts and ends at Lindenplatz in Koldingen. The Leineauen-Weg is 12 km long. The starting and ending point is either Rodelberg in Pattensen on Redener Weg or the Leine bridge near NABU in Alt-Grasdorf. The routes differ in length by just one kilometre; for planning, the main point of comparison here is which starting and ending point suits you. Also check the current conditions on the Leineauen-Weg before your trip.

The history of Pattensen and Jeinsen

The free Pattensen-Zeitreise app offers a self-guided city tour with 16 stops where you can experience Pattensen’s history on location. This adds a different focus to your plans than the length of the circular routes. Check before your trip whether the app is available.

One specific historical landmark is the tower of St. George’s Church in Jeinsen: it was built in the Early Gothic style around 700 to 800 years ago. Its approximate age and stylistic classification give the tower a distinctive place in local history, without assigning it an exact construction date.

Calenberg Castle is also in Pattensen: it is located in Schulenburg, a district of the town. The surviving features there include ramparts, cellars, foundations and the remains of a gun tower. Some areas have been closed since 2008; take this restriction into account when planning your visit.
