At the Bramsche Cloth-Making Museum, the collection of spinning and weaving equipment spans from pieces more than 3,000 years old to machines from the 20th century. At the Museum and Park Kalkriese, the exhibition on the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest offers insights into the worlds of the Romans and Germanic peoples, as well as the history of the discovery of Kalkriese. The two themes focus on different aspects of culture: textile technology and crafts on the one hand, and the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest and its discovery on the other.
Culture and Events
The grounds of the Museum and Park Kalkriese cover more than ten hectares. They host the Roman and Germanic Days and the Kalkriese Forum every year, among other events. If you would like to combine your trip with one of these events, check the dates in advance.
The Cloth-Making Museum also offers creative workshops in various textile techniques. At the cloth market in September, textile artists and textile craftspeople present selected products, including unique clothing and unusual fabrics. The KornmĂĽhlenKonzerte concert series features music ranging from classical chamber music to tango and jazz. This gives you a choice of cultural activities, from practical work with textile techniques to markets and music. Individual workshop dates and concert programs may change; the date and participants at the cloth market may also vary. Check the details if you are planning your trip around a specific activity.
Routes by Length and Profile
The three cloth-makers’ routes explore Bramsche and vary in length: the Old Town Route is about 2.5 kilometers long, the Hase Meadows Tour about 4.5 kilometers, and the Hasesee Route about 3.6 kilometers. Of the three, the Old Town Route is the shortest and the Hase Meadows Tour the longest. For cyclists, the BR 1 cycle route starts in Bramsche and loops around Lake Darnsee over 27 kilometers. The BR 3 cycle route is 47.9 kilometers long, runs mostly on paved paths, and is considered well suited to families. This makes it possible to compare the shorter cloth-makers’ routes with the longer cycling routes; the surface and stated suitability for families are also part of BR 3’s route profile. The difference between the two cycling routes is 20.9 kilometers.
Planning Your Stay
The tourist information office at the Bramsche Cloth-Making Museum provides advice on places to visit, accommodation, and cycling and walking routes in and around Bramsche. You can also book guided tours of historic Bramsche through the office. If you are considering Bramsche as a place to stay, its advice on accommodation can be just as helpful as its guidance on places to visit and routes. If you are interested in a guided tour or a specific event, check current booking options or dates in advance.
