The history of the Protestant half-timbered chapel is a tangible part of Bredenbock’s local heritage. There are also nature trails nearby; other forest activities are located in the destination of Göhrde. When planning, therefore, consider not only your historical interests but also the duration and format of each activity.

The half-timbered chapel and Bredenbock’s local history

The Protestant chapel in Göhrde-Bredenbock was first mentioned in the 1534 Lüneburg register of benefices. It was rebuilt on the same site in 1732 as a simple, towerless half-timbered building with brick infill. The bricks fill the spaces between the wooden beams. Its historic furnishings include votive panes, some dating from 1732, and a freestanding wooden bell tower. Inside, the chapel has a small organ with three stops. Together, these architectural features illustrate different aspects of the chapel’s history, from its half-timbered construction to its furnishings.

Bredenbock is classified as a historic Rundling village, category 4, but it can no longer be recognized as a Rundling. The classification places the settlement’s history in context, while the Rundling layout is no longer visible today. The historic classification and its present-day visibility therefore reflect different aspects of the village’s history.

The half-timbered chapel in Bredenbock is also a stop on a tour through the Göhrde. Route details may change, so check the current route if you are planning to take the tour.
