Polle brings together castle ruins, the Weser ferry and trails into its wooded and open hinterland. This gives you several options for a stay in the Weser Valley: culture at the castle, a distinctive river crossing, the “Through the Habichtstal Valley” route and a seasonal outdoor pool. For your planning, the key things to note are that castle tours require advance registration and the outdoor pool operates seasonally.

Castle Ruins and Culture in Polle

The ruins of Polle Castle stand on a hill about 25 metres high above Polle in the Weser Valley and are open to visitors. Cultural events are held in the castle courtyard several times a year. At the castle museum, you can view archaeological finds from excavations at the castle. The ruins, events and artefacts offer different ways to explore the history of the town.

Guided visits to the castle are available on Saturdays or Sundays with advance registration. Before your trip, check whether a date is available.

Weser Ferry and Route into the Hinterland

The Polle Weser ferry runs between Polle and Heidbrink. For the crossing, it uses the river’s natural current and requires no propulsion of its own. If you would like to include the ferry in your plans, check the timetable in advance.

The “Through the Habichtstal Valley (Po 2)” route leads from the Weser into Polle’s hinterland. It passes through dense forests and open countryside and offers lovely views. Alongside the castle and museum, it provides a distinct focus on the landscape, with the route into the hinterland taking centre stage.

Outdoor Pool with Seasonal Opening

Polle outdoor pool has a 25-metre swimming pool and a separate non-swimmer pool, also 25 metres long. Facilities include a 1-metre diving board, a 3-metre diving platform, a water slide and play areas. The pool operates seasonally; check the current opening hours before your visit.

Culture in the wider destination of Holzminden

The wider destination of Holzminden offers other distinct cultural attractions. The Museum Schloss FĂĽrstenberg presents porcelain from more than 265 years of the FĂśRSTENBERG porcelain manufactory. The site also has a viewing platform 80 metres above the Weser, with panoramic views of the Weser Valley and the tri-border region.

Bevern Castle is a four-winged Renaissance complex built between 1603 and 1612 around a square courtyard with a moat, two bridges and a castle garden. The Grünenplan Glass Museum offers a different subject: it traces the development of the Grünenplan glassworks from its founding in 1744 to the modern production of Deutsche Spezialglas AG. Tools, glass products and photographs explain the production processes. Visitors can also learn what a glassblower’s daily life was like, how glassworks workers used to live and where they lived, and the unusual role canaries played in Grünenplan.
